Fir Trees, Windermere

Property was clean kitchen well equipped bedrooms slightly dated but also clean problems with accommodating so many people was no lounge area so everyone had to congregate in the kitchen, also maybe update the kerb appeal as it was looking badly maintained.

We booked Fir Trees for a family 80th birthday celebration. Like others we were caught out by the lack of a good, comfy communal space, but rearranged things to make the best of it and enjoyed the event. But, Fir Trees is tired and shabby and poorly presented. We shall not be returning.

Great property in a perfect location, easy walk to Bowness and Windermere, and short drive to Grasmere, Kendall, and other lovely spots. Bedrooms were all spacious and comfortable with ensuite which is brilliant when staying in a large group. One room had a leaking sink which was fixed the next day. And a few appliances in the kitchen were a bit worn out, hot water tap not working, but loads of plates, cups, cutlery etc, big fridge and freeze, two dishwashers... no recycling instructions. Great garden and BBQ. Only thing missing was a lounge area, large dinning room but nowhere for whole group to relax together. And the property could benefit from more local information, we discovered a very short woodland walk to a beautiful swimming spot Millerground right by the house.

A group of eleven us stayed and we still had spare rooms. The house is spectacular, the rooms are spacious, comfy and ours had a great shower. The kitchen and dining room are great spaces for socialising. The ping pong table was a big hit too. Its in an ideal location for both Windermere and Bowness. In a long weekend we got to these, Ambleside on the steamer, Grasmere and Fell foot. A great taste of the Lakes. We would highly recommend Fir Trees and Im certain well be back.

The house is very spacious and the kitchen is very well stocked. The two dishwashers and large fridge were great for our large family. The beds were comfortable and linen is lovely quality. It really needed a proper clean as the carpets were thick with dust, we also found toenail clippings on the carpets and bathroom and sticky marks were found on the bedside tables. It was also disappointing to have to lift 3 bags of dog poo from the garden after discovering the kids had dragged some indoors. We arrived to find the curtain in the main bedroom broken and although this was fixed the next day we werent informed before our arrival of this so we could be prepared with extra eye masks. Overall we had a lovely stay, just needs a better cleaner but the property was ideal for us.

Fourteen Ladies for a 50th Birthday weekend The house was amazing. Loved the original features and especially the Minton tiled floor in the hallway and the beautiful staircase. The kitchen was well equipped , it had everything we needed except for a corkscrew but the Guest House a few doors down lent us one ! It had a huge fridge and a separate, equally as big , freezer. It had two dishwashers which made life so easy especially as we were 14 of us. The Range Cooker was great. There was a Ninja Bean to Cup coffee machine so , if you like your coffee dont forget your beans but if you do forget theres plenty of shops in easy walking distance to buy some. The dining room easily accommodated us all comfortably and a great room to play games in. All nine bedrooms , each with their own ensuite were all very clean and the comments from the girls , that the beds were really comfortable. The location is in walking distance to lots of local shops , bars and restaurants , ten minutes in either direction to Bowness and Windemere. The property owner , Michelle was very helpful. We will definitely be revisiting Fir Trees Guest House in the not too distant future.

We stayed here for a 60th birthday weekend with the whole family, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The kitchen was very well equipped, which made catering for a big group so much easier, and the large dining room was perfect for us all to sit together and celebrate. The only thing we felt was missing was a cosy living room area with sofas where everyone could properly relax in the evenings. A hot tub would have been a lovely added bonus too but thats just a suggestion rather than a criticism. The hosts were very handson and helpful whenever we needed anything. Had a lovely stay with a group of 15 that held us all really well, facilities were fantastic and had everything we needed. Definitely would recommend.

Wires exposed by light switch in the kitchen, no blinds or coverings in the kitchen windows and curtains that didnt cover the windows properly in the lounge. Both of these rooms exposed to the road and passers by. Rooms smelt a bit musty Bathroom handle came off for one the bedrooms and struggled to then to open the door, took 3 of us to get the door open. Description of property should make it clear that there is no lounge area

Fir Trees is a real gem! We booked the house for a large family group to celebrate a 90th birthday. The most important criteria for us as a family was to have our own bedrooms with en suite facilities, on site car parking and a well equipped kitchen. The house didn't disappoint and we were very pleased. Location is great, walking and driving locally. Our booking was in November, therefore, we didn't make use of the garden facilities but they looked very good. The large dining room doubles as the sitting room. We rearranged the furniture and the room worked for us, excellent large screen TV as well. The extra table in the kitchen was perfect for our early risers, the children and playing cards. There is a fridge and separate freezer which are enormous, absolutely perfect for self catering. There is more than enough pots, pans, utensils, crockery and glasses. We had our Tesco shopping delivered direct to the house and the facilities in the kitchen were perfect. Excellent communication with the owner, Michelle, a general question answered swiftly and she went out of her way to return a coat that had been left behind. Thank you Fir Trees, we will be back.

Excellent property for our group we could all have an ensuite bedroom. Had a large kitchen with large fridge, oven and freezer perfect for a group. and dinning room. Excellent location. Could do with a more comfy chairs and the dinning room doubles as the lounge. Would recommend and will visit again

Great place to stay spot on location short walk to Windermere and Bowness on Windermere . Perfect for large groups. Would stay again. Could do with some sofas in the dining room which there is room for. Kitchen could do with some blinds or curtains for privacy. Property was very clean and the kitchen was very well stocked with everything you could need.

We were a family group of 11 staying at Fir Trees for 3 nights over a weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The house is in a great location being only 10 minutes walk in either direction to both Bowness and Windermere which saves the hassle of finding car parking in those busy areas. There was plenty of off road parking at Fir Trees. The house itself was large and retained many of its original Victorian features throughout. Especially pleasing was the Minton tiled floor and staircase. It was well decorated, clean, comfortable and warm. All 9 of the ensuite bedrooms were a good size, nicely furnished and immaculately clean. The kitchen has been recently refurbished and everything you could possibly need for food and drink preparation was there in abundance. It had a huge fridge, separate freezer, two dishwashers and a large range cooker. It was a nice gathering area at breakfast time. The dining sitting room easily catered for our group in the evenings and we found it to be comfortable. The WiFi worked well for us all given the number of devices we had with us. We had a great stay at Fir Trees, as a large party of 16 including 2 children it was perfect for our hen party. The location is great with a short walk distance to everything you need from the Lake District in September. Each room having an ensuite was perfect for us, the large dining area was great for eating and playing hen games, the kitchen was big enough for all our food and drinks. We even got to enjoy the garden which was lovely in the early evening. The bride to be loved old features of the house, there were a few things that could be fixed up a little more but nothing that impacted our stay and we would definitely recommend.

Great location ten minutes walk either way for Windermere and Bowness on Windermere centres. Very comfortable bedrooms. Property very suitable for large numbers although there is no sitting room not an issue when the sun is shining as we were outside sitting in the garden all week.

Firstly, a big thank you as we had a terrific week with all the family. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable and each having an en suite was a godsend. The location was great as well with everything within easy walking and driving distance. Response from the host was very good and prompt. Feedback we can provide other than the above would be that not having a communal downstairs toilet was something that was very much noted and missed. In general, the kitchen looks like it was in midupdate with much work to be completed. Given the sizes of groups visiting I would have also expected a better equipped kitchen coffee maker, bigger pots, sharp knives etc but we had many of these with us in our Motorhome so it didnt present a huge problem to us in the end. These are some ways we believe the experience could be improved but again, we had a great time and very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to others.

Great location of the property being in walking distance to the towns. Very comfortable bedrooms and big dining room for family get togethers. Property owners were very helpful and we had a really enjoyable stay.

We were a party of 4 families, consisting of 8 adults and 9 children and 1 dog. Fir Trees as advertised should have been the perfect accommodation for our needs. However upon arrival we found the kitchen in a state of refurbishment, with still wet plaster on the walls, live electrical cables exposed, some of which were not adequately insulated, there was black mould on some the walls where old unitsapploances had been removed. The installed fridge was very small and is not sufficient for a property advertised to accommodate 18 guests, although we did see space for another fridge, possibly due to be installed at a later date. When tea time arrived we discovered the cooker was not working, after some investigations it became apparent it had not been correctly wired up following installation of new kitchen units. This ruined our first nights plans for tea, having purchased a large amount of food before arriving. Having no means of preparing food for 9 young children was very disappointing and disrupted our plans for the evening. We had to buy takeaway food for everyone staying at the property which was an unexpected cost we had not budgeted for. This was the same story for breakfast the following morning, where we had brought a large amount of food to be cooked but were unable to do so again. The oven was eventually reconnected by a tradesman during the second day of our stay. The weekend we stayed was particularly cold and we soon noticed there was no working central heating running at the property which meant two cold nights for our children. When this was highlighted to the owner it was resolved the following day, and the house did warm up to a comfortable temperature. The listing for Fir Trees specified there was a sitting room, but this is not the case as the only communal rooms are the dining room and kitchen. The bins for the property, although many, where all found to be nearly full when we arrived, this proved challenging when trying to keep the place clean and tidy. One of the bedrooms was found to have a very slow draining toilet, this worsened over the course the weekend and eventually blocked. The bedrooms and bathrooms at Fir Trees are very well presented and provide a high standard of comfort. The location is ideal for access to the lakes and the surrounding attractions. There is ample parking. It was very clear Fir Trees was once a B&B but it doesnt feel that the property is completely ready to be used as a holiday rental. The guest information folder left out for us still contained all the old B&B information. Fir Trees has massive potential to be a great holiday let but its not quite there yet.

9 of us had a fantastic stay at Fir Trees for 3 nights. The property is perfectly positioned between Windermere and Bowness around a 10 min walk to each and provides a very comfortable space with the rarity of having an ensuite for every room. The dining room and kitchen provides all the facilities you need to service a large group and the driveway easily parked all 8 of our cars. Fir trees was very clean and communication with the owners was brilliant. I would 100 recommend. Thanks again!
