Old Post Office Reviews

Kayleigh
Beautiful cottage, exceeded our expectations, lovely large garden, comfortable bed and we loved the open fire and cosy living room. Kitchen was very well equipped. 100 will come back thank you!
Christine
A beautiful tranquil setting. The house was amazing, everything at hand that you needed. Very clean, comfortable and warm. I would definitely book to go again. It was very magical. The garden also was amazing very private.
Had a great Christmas 2025 at the Old Post Office. Lovely old cottage, generously heated, and very wellequipped kitchen. Great walks from the doorstep, with cafes, pubs and shops nearby. Highly recommend.
The cottage is well furnished and equipped and generally clean but the carpets and rugs could do with a deep clean as they are stained and dirty. I found a false nail in one of the downstairs rooms. I suggest window blinds be in place in the upstairs bathrooms. The leaves on the bushes on the property opposite have now fallen allowing sight into the bathrooms. We had to place towels across the windows. The cottage information said there was logscoal available on an honesty basis. On arrival, we found the fire had not been laid and very little kindling, logs or coal. I managed to scrape a scuttle of wet slimy coal 3 from the bottom of the coal bunker and then had to find somewhere to buy logs and kindling. We enjoyed our stay in what is a lovely cottage and would have given it five stars had it not been for the issues mentioned.
A lovely house, perfect for a family holiday. Beautiful surroundings ideal base for walking or touring the Yorkshire dales

My parents and brother absolutely loved everything about the property and its location. It was exactly what we wanted and needed, peace and quiet in our beautiful Yorkshire Dales, honestly we didnt want to leave. We have stayed in many properties over the years but this ticks all the boxes for us. We will be back next year God willing. Sorry for not leaving a comment in the visitors book, we simply forgot.
Richard
We loved our stay at this property. Plenty of room for us we were four adults and one big dog. Plenty of facilities in the kitchen. Big dining table could seat 10 people. Lovely secret garden. dog loved sniffing about. Kids would love it for hide and seek. Gardener visited to maintain it while we were there. Lots of birds visited. Very remote, quiet and peaceful. Plenty of nearby walks. Sofa bed and chairs in snug could do with upgrading as not very comfortable. Phone signal not great but EE worked. There is wifi available. Would definitely stay again.

Our second visit was as enjoyable as the first in this well equipped cottage, set as it is in such a beautiful area.
Really enjoyed the stay. The house is full of character and very peaceful, nicely eqipped kitchen...nice gardens for kids to play safely etc. It is very rural... that's the only downside . About a 20 min drivev to Richmond along some very narrow roads ... but if that's not an issue for you ten thud a good choice .. maybe a bigger tv?
Andrew
We loved the cottage. It is in a stunning, peaceful and beautiful location. Spacious and well equipped. We stayed with our daughter, soninlaw and 3 young grand daughters. Great to have the 2 bathrooms and a third additional loo! We've had a super holiday. Have enjoyed the well maintained, secluded garden. Two minor points We found there was nowhere to hang clothes in one of the bedrooms and no plughole cover in one of the bathroom sinks. If something had been dropped down, eg, a ring, we wouldn't have been able to get it back! But overall, thank you for a lovely stay.
Christine
The old post office is an amazing cottage with superb views and gardens and the paddock advertised wasn't even used with our dog although I wasn't sure which paddock it was anyway! !. There was plenty of room for a large party of mixed ages and a dog. Difficult to keep the dog downstairs without a gatedoor on the staircase so we had to use chairs at night which did work. In the evenings we couldn't all fit in snug and other living room didn't have a tv but there was plenty of other rooms. Photos don't do justice to the cottage. A lot of driving to get anywhere but that's Yorkshire Dales for you! We left a lot of recycling and missed the recycling van as we didn't know when to put it out. Sorry!! Definitely recommend it to any large family for a relaxing holiday. Thank you.
Graham
The property and garden were both pleasantly larger than we expected. We enjoyed our stay there, having a good time exploring Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. I am surprised that the Sykes website doesn't have more photos to sell the place.
Our family had an amazing stay at this beautiful cottage. It was so clean and tidy and had everything we could possibly need. We would definitely stay again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Many thanks.
Hannah
We had a wonderful stay, perfect for enjoying a break with extended family. It is well equipped, comfortable and in a great location for exploring the beautiful dales. We enjoyed the visits from local wildlife into the garden, a Pheasant came right up to the window to say hello!
Whilst the house was nice overall there were a few issues. Firstly, 50 of the hob didn't work. The house could benefit from a deep clean. The shower in the upstairs bathroom was next to useless. Some of the furniture especially outdoors could do with an update. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the house in general. We appreciated the size of the garden which the children loved.
Sharon
Great cottage. Had everything you required. The garden was fab. Sat watching the wildlife even saw a woodpecker. The dog loved it too. Even found the little gate at the bottom of the garden where you can buy fresh eggs. The dining area was fab loads of space, very bright and the sheep kept on coming to say hello. We were worried they wasn't enough toilets as only mentioned one on the description but there was three. Plenty of places to visit with some amazing views and come back and relax in the lovely warm cottage listening to and watching the wildlife. Then a good night's sleep in the comfy beds. 1010
It was roomy and ideal for a mixed generation family. Our son took a camp bed so we could all fit in upstairs for sleeping. Which left plenty of space for everyone to spread out during the day. The weather was bad so we were inside more than we wanted to be. The dining room was really lovely. The kitchen table served well for rolling breakfasts and crafting sessions.

This was our second visit to The Old Post Office we were last there 2017 , everything as we remembered, ,credit to the maintenance and cleaning team, a beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet location, within reach of all the dales has to offer, we love this place and would highly recommend.
Sharib
It was a great stay. Thank you for hosting us last summer.
Amanda
The cottage is in a beautiful village and the area is Outstanding. The cottage had everything we needed and very comfortable and we loved the sun room and garden.
We had an amazing Christmas ! Family of 8 the property is lovley we will definitely be returning .
The Old Post Office has been a favourite with us . This is the third time of visiting Marrick now and is as good as it gets . So please forward our thanks to the manager and owner on our behalf. The only shock was the cost for the same date in 2023. A huge jump in price! Anyway that would be the only drawback to our booking again. Regards John and Sue Burns.
The owners are missing a trick. It doesn't say anywhere that this cottage is DETACHED and has a massive enclosed garden and it's in the middle of nowhere in beautiful and very quiet surroundings. Only thing when we arrived we couldn't get in as the key code was wrong. It's NOT 2000 as it says on Sykes blurb Sykes need to be on this immediately But 11 out of 10
This is a real gem of a place. In a terrific location, and with a large mature garden. The property is spacious but homely and full of character. It is also wellequipped, including a veritable libraryworth of books and a decent number of games. The photos really, really, do not reflect how good this place is!

A great holiday. Very clean and a beautiful garden. Especially loved the dining area.
This Old Post Office is a home from home property. Clean and comfortable, with everything you need for a stunning stay. I stayed with my family, and it's the first time that we've 'not been ready to go home' at the end of a holiday. The surrounding countryside and villages are just beautiful. I can't recommend this place enough and would love to return. Thank you for having us.
A few more photos.
Cameron
Superb location, very homely, comfortable, if you want peace and quiet perfect.
We have always had a great break in the cottage. Please forward a special thanks to the cleaner Ruth she does such a good job. Sue and hen Burns Edinburgh
Great place to stay . Clean, well appointed & spacious . Quiet village but close enough to Reeth for pubs etc
The cottage was comfortable and relaxing. The kitchen was adequate, but a basic oven would have been better! Too much technology with the oven. The layout of the cottage was great. There were lots of places to relax and be by yourself if you wanted to.
The most beautiful stone cottage and gardens. The house was immaculate throughout and extremely comfortable with all mod cons. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back.
The Old Post Office is a very comfortable holiday let with plenty of space for families. The garden is amazing, surrounded by a Yorkshire stone wall & a tiny gate in the wall at the very bottom of the garden for a quick escape to go sight seeing. Everything about the cottage is so peaceful & relaxing. I agree with previous feedback that the photos do not do it justice. It is a typical old cottage with stone flagged floors, two open fires if you fancy them & central heating. Two very comfortable lounges, one with TV & 3 bathrooms one being on the ground floor in a utility room with shower & toilet. The kitchen is luxurious with marble worktops & plenty of storage as well as everything else you require. The bedrooms are also very comfortable. Finally the views into the field & beyond next to the cottage from the dining room are amazing & if you are lucky the sheep may be in the field & come up to the window to say hello. Such a treat! I think visitors considering this property should know that the cottage is in a tiny village with no shops etc. The nearest town for supermarkets is Richmond approximately 20 mins by car away. I know the area so I planned ahead so we had everything required on arrival. Or you could do an online order & have it delivered to you. Highly recommended for peace, nice walks & the most beautiful scenery.
Our stay at the Old Post Office was the perfect place for two households to get together after lockdowns. We all loved it. Grandparents, parents and children. Clean, comfortable and well appointed. A little remote, but that suited us just fine.
The interior photos are in no way representative of this lovely cottage! It is spacious but still cosy, refurbished and tastefully modernised with the addition of larger windows and a fabulous airy extension the dining room. We were looking forward to sitting by the fire but the heating was so good that the place was always warm! Comfy beds, warm duvets, decent showers given that they are electric and everything you could need in the kitchen. I feared the worst when I read electric hob but it is in fact an induction hob so cooking was very easy. The remote location was a positive for us and we enjoyed the views from the upstairs and dining room windows. There were several paths to walk nearby without needing to get in the car, but Grinton and Reeth 10 minute drive down a narrow lane provided further opportunities close by. We would highly recommend this cottage and would definitely stay here again.
The cottage is much larger and better appointed than the photos suggest. The entrance porch , with seats to take off muddy boots, is a useful feature. As is the snug , another entrance area to hang coats and leave shoes . The 2 smallish lounges are both cosy and lovely to return to a log fire after a day in the hills. There are no shops or pubs in the village but both are available in Reeth , 3 miles away. Hence its as Covid safe as you could find. We loved it here and plan to return.
Lovely cottage in a charming rural location. The cottage is well equipped and in an excellent location for walking and visiting the local National Heritage sites. Ruth had the cottage all ready for our arrival and the bottle of wine was an unexpected treat. Wouldn't hesitate to return if the opportunity arises. Great place to relax and switch off.
I can not recommend The Old Post Office highly enough. A stunning cottage in such a unique setting. Immaculate interior and extensive gardens. It is our second time here and it hasnt failed to disappoint.
Alison
