High Hall Reviews

Absolutely lovely place with plenty of character and situated in a beautiful village. Well maintained property and ideal for a party of 1214 people. lovley walks straight from the property and charming local pubs. The only minor point is the very extensive instructions . Although comprehensive it was overwhelming and would be better off condensed.
We absolutely loved our stay at High Hall. We had a small group of family and friends staying with us for our micro wedding that was at a nearby venue. This was the perfect base for us. Due to the age of the property and the sympathetic treatment of it by the owners, it gave the weekend a wonderful, grandiose element and really made the weekend away special. Everyone had a large, comfortable room with en suite or nearby bathroom. The bathrooms are all well equipped with good showers and all fully functioning. You may find with some old buildings that the plumbing leaves a bit to be desired but this was not the case at High Hall. The added bonus of the hot tub was lovely and well maintained. The communal areas were perfect for our gathering of family and friends. A good size kitchen we could all congregate in while the nominated cook was busy, a games room, the cosy TV room, the dining room and fabulous piano room. We were spoilt for choice on where to spend our time. We had intended to go for a short walk to Burnsall on the Saturday but chose to spend it together at the house instead. The weather wasn't ideal but it made it all the more atmospheric in the hall. Despite the size, the temperature all around the house was perfectly set, it was comfortable for the whole stay. It is difficult to explain how characterful High Hall is, from the high ceilings, stone windows, wonderful wooden staircases, panelling, there's just a lot to admire. High Hall is now a very important place to us as being part of our wedding weekend and I wholeheartedly recommend it as a place to stay.
We loved our brief stay in this historic house. The house was well appointed and very comfortable, perfect for a family party. The information and support from the owners was prompt and very helpful.
An absolutely lovely house is a delightful village. Great accommodation for a large group, with plenty of characterful socialising space the Great Hall is as amazing as it sounds. Gardens and hottub much enjoyed, even in February. Really well equipped from the kitchen to the living rooms we completed three of the jigsaws too. The Craven Arms, about 200m along the road, served excellent food and a really nice selection of very local beers. The even closer New Inn was closed when we were there.
Louise
Thank you for a beautiful place to stay.

High Hall House certainly has the wow factor from the imposing view of the house from the outside to the comfort and attention to detail on the inside, it is spectacular. The gardens are superbly maintained and well equipped with games, the hot tub and places to sit and relax. Inside the seating areas are so comfortable and perfect for larger gatherings, the kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms spacious with luxurious bedding. The house was perfect for a three generation special birthday celebration especially given our good luck with the weather. The information provided prior to our weekend was extensive and a little overwhelming at first but on arrival we were grateful for it and all made sense a lot of thought had gone into preparing this so that it was useful and easy to follow. The house provided a memorable experience for us all.
We spent a week at High Hall and it was perfect for our group 12 from 3 families. It worked out we had a wing each with the configuration of the bedrooms and bathrooms. The space in the house and gardens was amazing and there were plenty of pans crockery and glasses etc. The hot tub was a hit and got much use. The location suited us as we wanted to hike and the local information provided by the hosts was valuable to plan our walks and where to eat on route. Plus the 2 pubs just down the road was ideal. Definitely recommend.

We had a great stay but the ice box didn't work so we had to buy our own ice, and the filter of the hot tub also wasn't the best either to clean the water.
Louise
This was genuinely the best family Christmas we could have ever wished for. The house is immaculate, and furnished and equipped to such a high standard, it has everything you need and more. My family travelled from Sheffield, Cambridge and Qatar and we stayed for three nights over Christmas and had a wonderful time, the house, the incredible Christmas tree and all the attention to detail made it just magical. Thank you Ken for being the perfect host and for the opportunity to stay in your beautiful family home.
A stunning property that felt extra special at the time of year as it had been dressed for Christmas. Very spacious but still cosy, clean and comfortable for the 10 of us that stayed there. Bonus that there are 2 great pubs within a few minutes walk of High Hall. Can sometimes take a while to get used to the quirks and foibles of an unfamiliar property and its facilities but we had most things sorted within a few hours. We all said we would want to return and Im sure we will follow up on this.

We booked two nights one full day at High hall. The fully equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge suited us well. However the fire alarm going off at 1615 caused a lot worry but we were told this might have been triggered by 'dust or a cobweb'................. being woken at 0215 with it sounding again was really disturbing with family members rushing downstairs to escape . Also I hadn't got my 500 bond returned within 7 days and had to send 2 emails before it was deposited 11 days after we left . Both incidents took the shine off what should have been a wonderful stay.
Rosina
Had a wonderful holiday in beautiful house and gardens. Spacious rooms for family and immaculately clean. Terrific.
An outstanding property, very well equipped with top quality furniture and accessories. We expected a garden showing signs of having been used but it was immaculate. Our hope is that it remains available for a visit next year. Our only gripe was the difficulties experienced in communicating with Sykes Cottages prior to the visit

My family had a great stay at High Hall, enjoying the house and its lovely location. The property and local information provided by the owner was also great and helped made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. High Hall is a unique and special place, that myself and my family will fondly remember.

Lovely well equipped propertya real home from home!
What an amazing house. We had such a good stay at High Hall everything was perfect. The Christmas tree was stunning and really made us feel festive.
High Hall is a wonderful place. We had a great time, lots of space, all rooms are lovely and well equipped. Lots of stairs!! Garden lovely and a welcome hot tub after being out all day. Beds are comfy and bathrooms great, no problems with water or pressure despite so many bathrooms. We loved the historic feel of the main rooms and corridors, it is a beautiful building.
We have loved staying at High Hall. The house is very well equipped. Wifi strong and reliable too. We particularly enjoyed eating in the dining room and making the most of the galleried hall and cosy sitting room. The gardens are beautiful and well cared for.
Robert
A truly excellent property which caters for all needs. We can highly recommend High Hall.
Timothy
High Hall is a fabulous house with a depth and aura of history. It is beautifully maintained and equipped providing luxury and comfort to those who visit. We all had an excellent time during our stay enjoying the comfort and space. An ideal house for a family gathering. One tiny gripe was that we felt the signage slightly OTT but fully appreciate the reasons for it.
Shelagh
A historic old property sympathetically restored and with all mod cons. A beautiful, warm and comfortable home which the owners used to live in and now ideal for a large family holiday.
Anthony
Excellent, period property. Very luxurious , great location. Only issue for me was a lack of hot water for one shower but it was ok the next time.
Virginia
Yet another fantastic stay at High Hall. You think of everything to make it an excellent holiday property. This has been our fourth visit, but the first time I have booked independently.
Dorothy
We was a group of ladies between the age of 57 to 80 celebrating a 60th birthday and we where blown away by High Hall, it certainly exceeded our expectations. Thank you for allowing us to stay. Not a criticism just a suggestion, it would be good if when you next change the beds not that they need changing consider them to be able to go into singles.
Fantastic venue, couldnt recommend it enough to others!
Andrew
Our stay at High Hall was a terrific success we hoped for comfort, space, and a touch of luxury, and we found all three in spades. You know those estate agent's pictures taken with wideangle lenses that leave you feeling disappointed when you arrive? Well, High Hall is the opposite you walk in through the front door and it unfolds and reveals itself as you explore, with a sense of spaciousness everywhere. The owners have refurbished and equipped the house sensitively, finding just the right balance between preserving its historic character and providing comfort and modern convenience. There's something to enjoy in every room, often in every nook and cranny, and much to enjoy in the outside space and facilities too. Our party enjoyed the hot tub on a freezing winter night, for example. It's a great place for a family or friends gathering enough large wellequipped rooms for everyone to gather together, but also with enough space, and large rooms, for anyone to find peace and quiet in a corner when they need it. Be prepared for a bit of quirkiness it's been standing a long time, and it's Grade 2 listed for good reasons, pay attention to the incredibly detailed care and guidance prepared by the owners, and the house will repay you. It's in a beautiful location, too, and we were blessed with glorious winter weather, but there's no chance you'd feel claustrophobic if bad weather kept you indoors. We were praying we'd be snowed in at the end of our week, but alas, we had to leave.
The nine of us in the group thought High Hall was fantastic, marvellous and all that everyone has said in the reviews on the Sykes web page BUT the sofas in both lounges are shot at, done, finished and are in urgent need of replacing. None of us were comfortable sitting on them and this was disappointing and in complete contrast to the quality of the rest of the house. The only other problem was the lack of privacy in the ensuite room where there isn't a door on the bathroom. If a door is too difficult to fit what about a curtain on a pole which would go some way to separate the room from the bedroom?
Such a privilege to stay in a unique property clearly much loved by the owners, in a beautiful area of the countryside.
Laurence
Fantastic historic property. Ideal for a large party of friends or family. We had a wonderful time and we're blown away by the character and space in the house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at High Hall. It is a beautiful building and must have taken a lot of effort and expense to restore it to its present standard. All bedrooms are extremely well furnished and each room has its own individual character. The kitchen is very well equipped and the reception rooms are very comfortable. It has a very well maintained garden with fantastic views. Quite rightly, the owners take great pride in their home and went out their way to ensure that we had an enjoyable visit.
We had a wonderful week at High Hall. The house and gardens are beautiful, the facilities are excellent, it's in a lovely location and the owners were very helpful and responsive. I would gladly stay there again.

This is a wonderful home and property and we were very happy with everything! Modern kitchen and bathrooms but the history of the house is preserved beautifully. Wonderful views and gardens and we enjoyed yoga in the studio, croquet on the lawn and beautiful walks in the countryside! Would highly recommend this house and we would love to stay there again!!!

Once again a fabulous weekend for our group of 12! Fun times and great memories were made, both local pubs are wonderful and as always the house and gardens were to die for!

Ken and Elizabeth have managed to transform a wonderful ,grand old house into a welcoming comfortable home with all the modern amenities without losing any of the wow factor and period features, quite an achievement. This beautiful house in such a lovely village made our special weekend truly memorable.
