Jacob's Lodge Reviews

We had a fantastic weekend staying at Jacobs Lodge. The property is lovely with stunning views. The bedrooms are well thought out with great provision for family rooms and theres plenty of space. Great hot tub and sauna area and a large dining table. My only comment would be there isnt enough fridge space for a property this large another fridge would be really helpful. Overall, this is a wonderful place for family or friends to get together.
Adrian
Jacob's Lodge was the perfect place for our group of eleven friends meeting up for a short break. The accommodation was very comfortable and the location was excellent, with lovely walks from the door ad a friendly nearby pub. The views were spectacular.
William
Fantastic place to stay, the views are amazing. The accommodation is great for a family get together. Exceptionally clean everything is provided. The owners have thought of everything even the smell of bread cooking in the bread maker, cookies and coffee cake was a special touch. The games room and the hot tub was enjoyed by everyone. We would certainly recommend Jacobs lodge and we will look to book again in the future.
Absolutely gorgeous place to stay, the owners have thought of everything with Jacobs Lodge. Immaculately clean and well maintained, plenty of parking, incredible views and lovely walks right from the door we walked to the start of a Teesdale Way circular walk and called in at the pub on the way back. Its so well equipped in the kitchen too, which was great for our group of 8. We had a brilliant time, just trying to figure out when we can go back!
We all have had a great weekend at Jacobs Lodge 69th Feb 2026. The Disabled access was fantastic for our friend, The house is amazing and we had everything we needed. Perfect.

We had an amazing stay at Jacob's Lodge to celebrate an 80th birthday. The accommodation was lovely. Beautiful rooms, all great sizes and lovely bathrooms. The communal accommodation was a really good size for us all. The owner met us on arrival to show us how everything worked which was a nice touch. The only criticism we would have is that an extra fridge would have been ideal. There is an American style fridgefreezer in the kitchen but for the number of guests and therefore food and drinks brought extra fridge space would have been great. We stayed in Feb so ended up just putting all of the drinks outside in buckets but if staying in the summer this wouldn't have been possible. This was the only thing to detract from a beautiful house in a lovely location. Thank you.
Had a wonderful weekend at Jacobs Lodge celebrating my 50th. The house was perfect and had everything we needed. Owners were really helpful and showed us how to use the hot tub sauna. All the facilities are of a high standard. We would highly recommend this property for a large group get together.
Joanne
Stunning lodge made very festive by the owners with a huge Christmas tree in the front room. Very clean & had everything you needwant. Owner showed how to use the hot tub Games room was enjoyed by kids. Walked a short distance 5mins to the local pub for Sunday lunch which was delicious. Will def look for another break with them

Amanda
A beautiful well kept house with everything you could possibly need in lovely quiet country location. A short walk to a lovely accommodating pub, with beautiful homemade food. From arriving to the smell of freshly baked bread, to leaving after 2 lovely nights stay, Couldnt recommend this property enough.
Rachael
Wonderful stay with all the family. Beautiful house and location with great facilities for everyone, will definitely re book again
15 of us stayed at Jacob's Lodge for the weekend celebrating a big get together. Loved the location of the house, facilities, home made bread and cake went down a treat. Couldn't have picked a more perfect place. Thank you x
Would highly recommend this property. The pictures don't do it justice. The only small thing we would say is the TV in the kitchen, we couldn't get a signal but apart from that everything was perfect. The Moorcock Inn were very accomdating and the food was beautiful. Just so people know that you can't get a takeaway delivered to the house so make sure you have something with you.
Everything about this property was first class. The owner came to visit soon after our arrival to ensure everything was OK and to show us how the Sauna and hot tub worked. The house has been designed perfectly to provide private bedrooms and large sociable areas. Our party of 12 had a great time! The views from the property are stunning and it is ideally located to provide a quiet and peaceful experience and yet be close enough to Barnard Castle or Middleton in Teesdale for shops, restaurants, pubs etc. Overall, a fabulous stay!
Pauline
We loved the weekend away with family and grandchildren. Met the owners they were very friendly and made us home made bread x cookies and Victoria sponge cake it was beautiful on arrival very kind of them. Thank you for a memorable time x

Fantastic Stay Perfect for Groups! We had an amazing time at this selfcatering cottage. The place was spotless, spacious, and really wellequipped ideal for a big group like ours, with people of all different ages. The layout worked perfectly for spending time together but also having our own space when needed. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Would absolutely recommend and hope to return.
Beautiful accomodation immaculate throughout. Fresh bread, biscuits and cake waiting for us on our arrival which was a nice touch and much appreciated. Facilities were outstanding with everything you may need for your stay. We had a 70th party of 14 staying with more than enough space for everyone. Hosts introduced themselves soon after arrival and talked us through the controls for hot tub and sauna. A beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting.
Fantastic property, great quality and enjoyed by all the family young and old.
Jackie
Had a lovely stay at Jacobs lodge with family the the views are amazing. The owners were very helpful and welcoming and on hand if we needed anything. Would definitely recommend
Valerie
This was an amazing property. With plenty of room for all the family to have their own space. Would highly recommend it.
Jacobs lodge was perfect in every single way. Perfect location perfect house with fabulous facilities. Plenty of space and the house was so well planned space for everyone at once or time alone. The hot tub house perfect and kept the noise away from the house. Sitting watching the sunset indoor and outdoors was so relaxing. We will be back even if we dont fill the house due to the location and serenity.
Catherine
Great stay, had a small problem with the hot tub. Owners came round within half hour and sorted the problem, great communication.
This beautifully presented spacious property was situated on a hill with stunning views of the countryside. The owners were very friendly and helpful and dealt with our queries promptly. There was a lovely welcome pack which included freshly baked bread, cake, biscuits, coffee and tea etc. This was an ideal place to stay for 14 members of the North London MG Club with great facilities including a large parking area for all our cars!
Alison
Your house is absolutely stunning and perfect for family and friends to get together. Myself and family had an amazing time and wouldnt hesitate to visit again and also recommend to others.
Fabulous stay at the lodge, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Everything we needed was supplied including tea, coffee, sugar and milk in the fridge for our arrival. Also the fab smell of baking bread, we loved the bread and biscuits left for us, nice touch. Only a slight complaint from us ladies of a certain age, it was very hot in the house and we couldnt turn down the heating. Most slept with windows open but we were reluctant to do this on ground floor. Absolutely recommend the lodge and hope to visit in the summer sometime in the future.
Patricia
This property is marvellous. We were a party of 12 with little ones, teenagers and other varying ages and it was perfect for them all. The house is immaculate and the 6 ensuites and family bathroom really appreciated. The layout of the kitchen, dining and living room areas work very well and members of the party can go to the hot tub and sauna or to the games room a full size pool table would have been the icing on the cake. The little ones can go to the second sitting room to watch a film when necessary or others can watch football on a bigger screen. To top it all the surrounding countryside is really beautiful. All in all a perfect holiday home.
Kirstie
Amazing weekend at Jacobs Lodge. The Lodge is AMAZING and has everything you need. The kitchen is well stocked up with everything you will need to stay here for a week . There is an iron, washing machine, hairdryer etc so you don't need to pack heavy! Hot tub and games room was a HUGE hit with the kids, in the summer you can open it all up but it was definetly a good idea to keep it closed during these freezing months! The bedrooms apart from 1 all have en suites which is great and very handy when there is so many of you. The beds were very comfy! The communication from Karen the owner was excellent and she was so helpful! It is a 2 min walk to the pub but we didn't go. The view is stunning and I can imagine in the summer it's amazing to sit out and go on a walk. I would highly recommend this place. We didn't want to go home!!!
As a family we loved our stay and would definitely recommend it x
Elaine
Fantastic property, no faults at all , 16 family members , young and old catered for . Hot tub and sauna perfect for a relaxing hour after a long walk in Teesdale , A great all round house , credit to the owners.
Stella

Carole
The lodge was absolutely perfect for our family . .all 3 generations were catered for by the available facilities. The welcome treats though unexpected were a lovely thoughtful gesture appreciated by us all ! Everything you could need was available and it was immaculate throughout. We were all really impressed and nobody wanted to leave lol so we are all sorting schedules to return next year for a longer period of time. A credit to the owners who kindly popped in to make sure we were happy with everything not long after we arrived which was also really appreciated. If you are considering this property for your break away all I can say is dont hesitate you will not be disappointed!!
What an amazing place! It was perfect for a group of three generations, with the ground floor for grandparents and kids up at the top. Stunning views, two comfy living spaces, the amazing hot tub and games room, and a lovely welcoming pub just over the road. Really well supplied with all the kitchen kit you could ever need, and a massive fridge the only improvement might be another jumbosized saucepan for big dinners. Karen and her family were on hand to answer any questions. There's even board games and an excellent array of holiday reading on the bookshelf if you fancy a rest! I'd recommend the little walk down towards the village, along the brow of the hill and down to the beck for a wade on a hot day. Really delighted to have found Jacob's Lodge and we'll definitely keep it on our list for big family gettogethers. PS Karen I'm sorry we forgot to write in the visitor's book!
Jacobs Lodge was lovely everything you wanted for a lovey stay. Would definitely go back. No expense spared to make your stay comfortable. Family loved the games area, sauna and hot tub. Would recommend to anybody wanting a spacious comfortable holiday venue.
Jessica
We had the most amazing time at Jacobs Lodge, the facilities and amenities were second to none and the service didnt disappoint. The owners were friendly, reliable and couldnt do enough to accommodate. I will definitely be booking and staying again. This allowed me to make my 30th birthday so special and I will cherish the memories forever. Thank you
Beautiful house is fabulous surroundings. Our family all agreed that the house was stunning and clearly maintained to a very high standard. The only very small niggle was each day during our stay David came to visit unnanounced and we felt we were being hurried to leave on checkout day. The hot tub was drained around 9am despite the children still being in the games room playing and us not needing to vacate until 10am. Other than that we can't fault the property and would recommend it to other families for their gatherings.
Debra Scott &
Brilliant Weekend in a fabulous property with amazing views What an amazing property this is. So well kitted out for every need. Large open plan living dining kitchen area with floor to ceiling windows which faced onto a beautiful view of the countryside. Another living room with large TV on the next floor. Separate games room sauna hot tub area which went down a treat with us all. The smell of the homemade bread cooking as you walked through downstairs was a real treat along with the biscuits and cake left for us. David called over to see if everything was OK and just to give us a little rundown on various things around the house, a nice touch. The 7 bedrooms were all of a good size, 6 having ensuite bathrooms. There is a lovely large bathroom which is on the same floor as the bedroom without an ensuite. Lovely walks and a great friendly pub just across the road.
From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the house and its views. We were greeted by David who took us around the house and explained everything. The fresh bread baking away and other goodies in the kitchen were a lovely surprise!! We are a large family from 2 months old upwards everyone could enjoy the facilities and comfort they needed. The leisure block with the games room and hot tub were well used and enjoyed by all. The location 10 minutes drive from Barnard Castle was great, Raby Castle and High Force waterfalls were very close by and we had a couple of lovely days out. We would definitely recommend this house, the location and facilities were perfect for us, we will be back!!
We have stayed away many times as a large group of 15 people of varied ages currently 4 months to 79 years and Jacobs Lodge is one of the best properties we have stayed in. Especially liked the 2 separate living areas and the extremely well equipped kitchen. Nobody drew the short straw bedroom wise as all but one twin were ensuite and that person had exclusive use of the family bathroom. For being such a large property it was warm and cosy and the separate building housing the hot tub, sauna and games room was well used. Pub within 2 mins with good food and friendly locals was great. Owner called to make sure all ok first night and the cake, biscuits and homemade bread were the icing on cake literally. Will deffo be looking to stay again
Norman
Twelve of us, between 9 and 85 years old, thoroughly enjoyed Jacob's Lodge. It was very comfortable, clean and warm and had everything we needed. The views were glorious. The Christmas tree was an appreciated touch as were the treats on arrival. The owners were very obliging and could not have been more helpful.
