Yew Cottage is a three-storey stone cottage on the Bigland Hall Estate in Backbarrow, Cumbria. This Lake District property sleeps eight guests across four king-size bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. The private hot tub on the enclosed patio offers views across the estate's ancient woodland. Off-road parking for four cars makes arrival easy for multiple families.

The estate sits between Lake Windermere and Coniston Water. Backbarrow village is 1.5 miles away and Newby Bridge just one mile. The Leven Estuary and Haverthwaite Steam Railway are within easy reach.

The ground floor features an open-plan living space with a bespoke kitchen including American fridge and wine chiller. Oak floors and leather sofas surround the woodburner. Two ground-floor king-size bedrooms have en-suites. Upstairs, two more super king-size bedrooms (convertible to twins) each have en-suite showers. A lovely property overall although signage to the cottages could be clearer on arrival. Cobwebs in various corners and dusty window cills were disappointing. During our stay the window cleaners appeared and wanted to clean inside too!! Strange thing to happen when guests are in their rooms.

We had a wonderful stay at Yew Cottage. Accomodation comfortable and well equipped, the split levels worked really well with a group, no disturbing one another when kids wake up early. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub and lovely outdoor furniture. Great location, would definately return.

Property was very well equipped for our stay with high quality furniture, kitchen utensilscrockery, garden furniture, BBQ, and spa towels. The cottage is part of a bigger complex with other guests enjoying their own stays in other parts of the building. We didn't expect this, however there is plenty of privacy between the properties and we couldn't hear any other guests through the walls. We were very happy with our stay and didn't have any complaints whatsoever about the cottage.

Beautiful cottage well worth five stars. Spotless no problems at all second time as a family we have been to these cottages, last time stayed in oak cottage this time stay in yew cottage. Lovely welcome grocery pack left for us contain eggs, jam, bread, milk and butter. A basket of pool towels and flip flops for you to use if you wish for the hot tub. We will definitely return for another break at these cottages.

The accommodation was great very clean and in a lovely location close to Windermere. The accommodationsite is of a very high standard and it is clear to see that every effort by the owners in maintaining the courtyard and holiday accommodation is kept to a high standard. All the individual gardenopen areas for each of the cottages are designed to give you privacy from other guests staying at the site. I would definitely recommend.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage which has been decorated to a very high standard. We met Lindsay when we arrived and she was very welcoming and showed us round. Every bedroom has a en suite shower room. The hot tub was lovely, very well maintained with clear water and they provided plastic glasses so you can have a drink in it. The view from the hot tub to the estuary isnt as good as I thought it would be as there was a wall in the way but if your tall you may still get a good view, none the less, the sound of only birds tweeting was so relaxing. Theres also a tarn which is only a short walk and you can walk a bit further and get an amazing view of the estuary. I would highly recommend this cottage, if I came back to the Lake District I would stay here again. Its easy to get around from it, close to the main roads and pubs but far enough away for it to feel like your out in the countryside and pure peace and quiet.

Lovely place however there was a couple of small changes I would make. The rug in the lounge was filthy and hadnt been cleaned in some time, the washing mashing needs a good clean, the sink in the kitchen needs cleaning out as there is very bad odour coming from it when the taps are running, the baby highchair also hadnt been cleaned and had food all over it and there is no full length mirror. The outside area is great, hot tub is good, bbq was a great addition and the furniture is perfect. The cottage is decorated to a high standard and bedrooms were very clean. I did get a text telling me the water cleaner had broken and wouldnt be fixed until the following day and for us to boil any drinking water, this was fine and we did appreciate the message. unfortunately what let it down was we didnt get told when the water was fixed and safe again, I did have to contact myself to ask and got told it had been fixed for some time. The management receptionists drive around on quad bike very fast and come around the corners very quickly where you cant see as there are high walls. Worth knowing as theres and accident waiting to happen, we had a couple of times where we went to come out of the gate and the quad bike came speeding round the corner nearly taking us out.

We were very impressed with every aspect. Spotlessly clean and a lovely welcome pack of essentials. Good communication from property managers. Really helpful information folder at the property. Struggle to think how they could do anything better here. Totally recommend it

Property was well prepared and clean and tidy. Welcome basket was a nice touch and the cottage was fitted out with all amenities. Location is very rural and scenic and local walks are on your doorstep. Despite the weather late October we made good use of the hot tub. The price reflects the quality of the accommodation.Would recommend the cottages to others. Only issue was having to miss the potholes in the access road. We will go back again.

The accommodation was beautiful, spotless and facilities were amazing. The staff looked after us amazingly! Just be aware it is adjoining with two other cottages, not the whole building is you are booking a large group. We were very conscious of making too much noise but we could not fault the place or people at all!

Only disappointment was that a lot of land around the property was private when we looked on Google earth before we travelled it looked like there were a lot of places for the children to run around but their wasn't. However we would definitely book again if travelling to the area.

Yew Cottage could be amazing but unfortunately we had a couple of snags which could probably be avoided with some maintenance on arrival we found parts of the property dirty there was also a horrible smell in some of the rooms we were told that the normal checks hadnt been carried out after the cleaners had visited but it did mean some of our party had to spend some of the first evening cleaning. In the middle of the holiday we had a visitor who ate some of our food in one of the cupboards a mouse!!! The issue was quickly resolved by the propertys owners with the hole into the property in a cupboard being blocked up and whilst mice in the countryside is something that no one could ever guarantee to eliminate, i would have expected common routes into the properties to be closed up in advance rather than risking holiday goers finding their food eaten. The hot tub is exceptionally well maintained although other areas of the property clearly need some TLC for example in the upper bedroom on the right the sink doesnt drain property blocked u bend probably and the shower tray feels like its about to give way when you stand on it.

Yew Cottage was amazing from the moment we arrived! Lynsey was there to greet us and show us around the cottage and how to use the facilities etc. the welcome package bread, eggs, butter, milk, jam and even prosecco! was a lovely touch. The cottage was stunning, clean, and had all the equipment & facilities we needed, the bedrooms were fantastic all with en suite and plenty of space, we had no trouble fitting the travel cot and pram in one of the downstairs bedrooms. The hot tub is great, even providing flip flops to get to the hot tub! Its all private and the views were stunning. We were all extremely impressed with Yew Cottage and would definitely return and recommend to others. Great stay and place.
