Cowstonegill Reviews

Nicholas
Absolutely fantastic, cant fault the property or location at all. Will look forward to rebooking our return trip to Cowstonegill.
A delightful cottage in a special place
Lovely house which was clean and well equipped with stunning views. Some mattresses were a bit yoo soft and need thicker curtains as very bright.
Nicholas
I couldnt fault the cottage or location
Cowstonegill is the best property we have stayed in during the last 15 years and the only one we have visited more than once three times now. For those seeking peace and quiet, comfort and cleanliness it is perfect. If you like walking or hiking you can go right from the front door whilst also being situated in the middle of the dales for alternative routes. Hope we'll be back again one day!
Ronnie
Fantastic property in the middle of the most beautiful countryside. It was lovely, warm and cosy and we didn't want to leave.
Very peaceful. If you want to get away from it all this is the place. Maybe more mention should be made about the roughness of the approach from the road to the cottage.
Stunning location. Very well equipped house. Spacious and comfortable
The property was immaculate. Very clean and very comfortable. We would all like to have stayed forever. The drive over single track and unmade track was very easy in our 4x4. In reasonable weather any car could do it. The village of West Burton has a little store with emergency supplies and the pub is very jolly. Both Leyburn and Hawes are easy to reach and a short drive every day takes you to wonderful Dales scenery. Reasonable mobility is required in the Dales if you want to avoid daily driving. Plan your days so as not to waste your time. Check events and market days around, its worth it if you get to attend the Muker show or the lovely market in Hawes. Some waterfalls in the area are spectacular if there has been a fair amount of rain. If youre fit, go over to Cotterdale and park before the bridge. A lovely stroll through the village and over the wooden bridge at the end will take you to the track that leads up Great Shunner Fell. Take some food and enjoy a day at the top of the Fells. Wonderful house, wonderful location and the owners have stretched themselves to cater for your every need. You will just love it.

This is a wonderful holiday property. It is very spacious, with ample outdoor space and accessible land around it. There are good walking opportunities directly from the property. We found it clean and tidy, with all the facilities we needed it is well kitted out for selfcatering. Also, the way the house & garden is set up, it provides good shelter from any weather coming in from the west.
Would be nice if there was some milk for tea or coffees after along journey
Nicholas
A perfect cottage in a perfect setting, really looking forward to planning our next trip to Cowstonegill.
A beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable. The location is remote which is what we wanted, surrounded only by farms and stunning scenery. Would love to return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage.
Graham
Fabulous location. Remote, peaceful. Dramatic setting. Very comfortable and spacious accommodation. Beautifully renovated. Only reservation would be to emphasise that the approach road is long and the track down to the cottage could be compromised by snowice. Just a caution that access could be difficult at times. Be prepared and stock up if cold weather is forecast. Would not want to attempt the valley road with black ice on the road. Underfloor heating downstairs is superb and makes the cottage very cosy. The private glan alongside the cottage is a joy to walk and our two grandsons had a wonderful time scrambling around there. The barn is excellent not only as a games area but, in our case, as a bike storage facility. There are some lovely walks and Mountain Bike trails within easy reach and the village of West Burton is delightful, with an excellent village shop and pub. From the village, it's an easy run either way along Wensleydale to Hawes Leyburn. Don't miss Campbells of Leyburn our favourite place to stock up for Christmas meat & vegetables. Simply wonderful selection. The only improvements we would recommend would be a An outside tap and hosepipe for washing bikes and boots. b Change single duvets for doubles. Single duvets are OK for kids, but not for adults. c A larger fridge would be great for larger parties.
Alison
The cottage was located in quiet rural surroundings with spectacular views of the Dale. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and the well equipped kitchen was one of the best we have stayed in! The wood burner was put to good use, making the lounge very cosy. A great base for walking and exploring beautiful Wensleydale! There is now WiFi in the house which is a bonus. A big thank you to the owners for all they provide. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
A little more isolated than we were expecting, but that definitely turned out to be a plus point. We used the cottage as a base for our extended family with a view to visiting relatives living in the area and taking the grandchildren to their favourite fun spots. That said, I could easily have spent the whole stay enjoying the peace and solitude of the cottage and grounds.
Beautiful cottage, well maintained, fully equipped, and comfortable. Lovely Christmasnew year treats to greet us, thank you. Wonderful views from the cottage. Great away from it all place to stay with lovely walks on your doorstep. Highly recommend.
Absolutely spot on. Not a bad word to say. Would definitely book again.
Comfortable farmhouse in a beautiful peaceful location
Laurie
Hi. We had a absolutely fantastic time staying at your beautiful cottage. No negatives to be given at all. 100 perfect Would love to come again in the future BIG thanks
The track to the cottage takes a bit of negotiating and if you have a heavily laden or low car beware of the cattle grid as it sticks up and catches the bottom of the car. Also dont forget to take milk tea and coffee, as its quite a distance to the nearest shop. The property is next to a farm, so be prepared for some farmyard odours. The house is lovely, and the views are amazing. If you are a stargazer it is perfect, totally dark skies make for some fantastic views. We were visited by plenty of wildlife, pheasants were in the garden every day, and a weasel appeared occasionally. Don't miss the falls in the village, the children loved it there.
Alison
Incredibly beautiful property. It felt very special and private. Very kid friendly inside and in the garden as it is enclosed by a wall. Highchair and travel cot were provided but I would recommend bringing your own travel cot if possible as the one provided is very old and unsturdy. I would recommend the owners obtain a new one. We wish towels and bath mats would have been provided as it would have made the stay more convenient. We will definitely come back, very cozy stay. I would recommended hiking down along the river as its gorgeous scenery and wildlife.
Beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet setting, in great condition, properly and lovingly maintained and deserves respect accordingly. Lots of walks locally and indoor entertainment for families in bad weather. Plenty of appliances, we were very well catered for, with nothing left out. Local tradespeople were very helpful and friendly too. We very much appreciated our stay, and look forward to being able to stay again at some point soon.
Situated in a beautiful setting, Cowstonegill was perfect for a 3 generation family holiday. The house was cosy and warm underfloor heating was a lovely surprise in not the best of weather and bedrooms, living space etc were very comfortable. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped everything you could possibly want and we spent a lot of time sitting round the kitchen table as it was so homely. The garden was very child proof and our 3 year old granddaughter loved playing out on the extensive lawn area. One word of warning there were no phone signal or WiFi which may not be suitable for all it didnt worry us. There is a landline phone in the farmhouse. I would thoroughly recommend this property for anyone looking for somewhere off grid. The village of West Birton is within easy reach and Leyburn is a short drive away.
The setting is idyllic and the house was a haven of peace for us all after the hustle and bustle leading upto Christmas. We could have reduced our packing by at least a half as everything was already there waiting for us. Such a well equipped property!
This is a well kitted out cottage in lovely countryside.

This is a well kitted out cottage in lovely countryside.
We had a lovely time at Cowstonegill, it's a lovely comfortable house with everything we needed in fantastic surroundings. So peaceful, walks from the door, wonderful stream to play in, delightful.
Matthew
We had a wonderful stay in this glorious cottage and would love to come again. The setting is superb and wonderfully peaceful, the cottage is comfortable, wellappointed and full of character.
Lovely cottage in a grea tocation. Walks from the door and in wonderful setting with gentle strolls to the river within the grounds. Weather was great all week. No internet or phone signal makes it even more relaxing. Well appointed and feels like a family home. The wine, chocolates and welcome post card were much appreciated. Hopefully we will return.
Richmond
We have stayed at cowstonegill many times and are always satisfied with this property , however on looking to book the property in 2022 we were shocked to find how much you have increased your prices and feel you are like many companies taking advantage of the current situation re covid 19 ,i can not see any reason for this great price increase .
This is a lovely cottage in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales. It ticked all our boxes in terms of solitude and peace and quiet. The view of the valley is amazing and we particularly loved walking around the grounds everyday, especially after it had rained and the beck and gill were in full flow. We walked to West Burton most days a slightly different route each time, and again the views are great. I understand that there are plenty of other walks in and around the valley but we didnt want to travel too far. The kitchen and lounge were cosy and our bed comfy so we were able to fully relax. We even enjoyed a few games of table tennis! We hope to stay here again in the future, maybe with a few friends next time.
Beautiful spacious house in a remote, charming valley, with stunning views across the valley from all the front windows. The house is very old but modernised to a high standard. It is well equipped, with a full range of kitchen utensils. The weather was chilly but the house was warm and cosy, with underfloor heating on the ground floor and radiators upstairs. The extensive private grounds follow a rushing stream down a steep valley side to an extensive stretch of Walden Beck. Great for exploring with the kids. We walked the Walden valley, and explored further afield by car the scenery is just breathtaking. There is no WiFi! There is no mobile signal in or near the house! Important to know, but in the end we came to consider this a plus point for a proper getawayfromitall location. There is a landline payphone and we were able to make use of this.
Just back from a wonderful week at Cowstonegill House. The house was very warm with lovely underfloor heating which was very welcome on returning from a day out. The kitchen is well equipped and the washerdryer is very a very helpful addition for wet muddy clothes. The views are gorgeous even when the rain is coming down the valley.
Very comfortable, warm and lots of room. Well laid out accommodation. Good information about location and directions.Very well equipped. Wonderful area. Nice welcome from the owners who were very helpful.
Cowstonegill was an ideal getaway for the family. Greatly enjoyed the outdoor space, table tennis, access to the river, exceptionally well equipped kitchen, excellent barbecue recommend the village butcher. The owners have been really helpful, and we've booked again for next year already.
This was probably the most enjoyable UK holiday I have had with my family. Literally within 10 minutes of arriving we said we will be back. A really exceptional cottage and location. If you want a break from everything this is the place to go.
Wonderful location. Lovely cottage in the tradional style. Everything we could ask for.
Pictues didnt do it credit Only downside Clearer sign needed nearer the house
Charming old farm house, great location for exploring. We found the house very comfortable and clean. Our week started off being a little cold but the house was lovely and warm and the wood burner just topped it off. The view is breathtaking you couldnt go past a window without a pause to admire the surroundings. Id highly recommend this property.
