Fair Rigg Old Farm Reviews

Sheena
Another fabulous stay at this farmhouse , with three generations of my family . The garden is an amazing haven for wild life and a great outdoor space for all the family to enjoy . The farmhouse is well equipped with everything you could need and the aga is a delight . Great central location to explore the surroundings countryside and villages.
We absolutely loved Fair Rigg Old Farm. We were a party of 8 but the house was large enough for everyone to find their own space when needed. The communal areas sitting and dining areas also accommodated us with ease. We would love to return and the thought of a summer BBQ in the garden with its amazing backdrop has us all salivating. The owners have obviously gone to great lengths to make their guests' stay as comfortable as possible.
A beautiful cottage with so many original features whilst still being very comfortable. The house was warm and very clean. The Aga and fire were big hits. There is a large dining table that fits eight easily. All the beds were comfy and plenty of hot water. There are walks for the dogs down the ajacent lane into several large fields with public access from the house and a large garden. Although there is fencing if you have a large or athletic dog it is probably not fully secure so they would need supervising if prone to wandering. The dogs loved the grounds. There are two vestibules to dry them off. Towels, bowls and treats were provided for them. The nearby village of Cartmel is less than 10 minutes by car and is very pretty. There is easy access to the A590 but its far enough away that you can't hear it from the garden. Two small points, we couldn't find a hairdryer. Also the shower above the kitchen leaked in to the corner near the Aga despite best efforts. Something might need resealing.

Beautiful and comfortable property. Loved cooking in the Aga. We were not certain the garden was escape proof so didnt let the dogs off lead which was a shame for them so this point could be made clear to clients. Only other criticism was tv reception. As weather was a bit wet it would have been nice to have chance to watch a movie so sky or Netflix would have been really welcome.

We had a fantastic week at Fair Rigg. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the Aga was a treat to use as wed never used one before. The bedrooms were comfortable and the master bedroom was especially spacious. The garden was fabulous, perfect for frisby play with our dog. The whole property, inside and out was very clean and well maintained. We will be back!
Sandra
Excellent property, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Think the low beams in the kitchen are worth mentioning as it made a painful experience for those over 6ft but did not detract from the overall wonderful experience. There were also some exposed nail heads in the wooden floors of the halllandingmiddle bedroom which needed to be avoided and could be easily remedied.
Home from home! Literally everything you need to relax in the Lakes. Walks nearby. Secluded, quiet. Very comfortable. Love the warmth of the Aga. Perfect for families, and dog owners.
The farmhouse was lovely with lots of period features. Loved the Aga in the kitchen. The welcome pack was a nice touch and as we had little ones with us it was great to have a washing machine. Plenty of fridge and freezer space, with all kitchen needs catered for. Beds were really comfy. Outside space was great for children and dogs to explore. In a lovely location to explore the local area. The only downside was lack of facilities to recycle bottles, cans etc. I would definitely recommend this property
The cottage was perfect in every way . One small note though,it would have been helpful if the cottage had supplied a hair dryer. We celebrated our wedding anniversary so was great to find champagne glasses and ice bucket. The gardens are stunning plenty of space to play and make a noise as it is very peaceful there . We live in a cottage a couple of hundred years old .so creeping floor boards Wasnt a problem to us .the photos didnt do the cottage justice.its fabulous When you open the back door . The low ceiling in the kitchen ,IF you are six foot and over MIGHT be a problem . But dont let that deter you,as its a fabulous cottage .

Great house, well equipped, very comfortable with lovely period features. Enjoyed the challenge of cooking on the Aga. Weather was good so we sat out in the stunning gardens. Location is good too, just off a main road but quiet. Thank you for the generous welcome pack. Would be nice to see the grandfather clock in the lounge running, but no other complaints. Would definitely return.
The property is really lovely. The house itself is characterful and wellequipped. The wraparound gardens are beautiful. We enjoyed cooking on the Aga and thought the large round dining table was a great for everyone to get together at the end of the day. Bedrooms were comfortable and we all enjoyed having our own space. We had a great stay and would definitely enjoy holidaying here again.
Beautiful farmhouse in gorgeous surroundings. Immaculately presented and very comfortable. Ten out of ten!
We stayed for 4 nights with my boys and 2 dogs. The place ticked all the boxes for us. Quiet location in a perfect setting. The cottages had everything to make the stay so comfortable. Would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle.
Hi. Great cottage. 2nd time stayed. Would definitely come again. Clean and tidy. Lovely location. However everyone in our party commented on how much a downstairs toiletbathroomshower room would improve the cottage. Make use of the study room. Also TV bit small for the room and we felt not enough logs left for fire. Not realising they were limited till we were there didnt allow us to bring our own. But all small details. Overall really enjoyed our stay. Thanks
Debbie
Great location and house even better than it appears online. The garden is great and snowdrops were so pretty and dog walks from the door. The outside garageutility was fabulous for the dog and wet walking gear. We were very comfortable in the lovely house and the beds were very comfy. 3 bathrooms were great. Only thing we missed was a hairdryer. Quiet location but close to all services by car. Aga was wonderful and we were warm and cosy. Cot and highchair were great for our grandson. Thank you
We absolutely loved our stay in the cottage. We were a party of 8, spending a preChristmas weekend together. The cottage was beautiful and the grounds were really lovely and well maintained. Every room of the house shocked us, with their individual character and thoughtful decor. We loved finding little treasures in the drawers too! The only downside for us were the check in and check out times. 4pm check in time was very late for a winter evening, and we were unable to explore the property and grounds properly due to it being dark. The 10am check out did not leave us much time to gather our belongings, strip beds as asked, make breakfast, clean and vacate the property on time. We were also slightly disappointed that the cottage was not decorated for Christmas, which would have completed our weekend perfectly. We would love to have had some history of the house available to read, to learn about our surroundings. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in this beautiful cottage and would highly recommend a summer stay to a friend. Thank you so much, and we will definitely be back.
Lesley
Lovely house in a gorgeous location. The owners have thought of everything to ensure the comfort of their guests. Plenty of character and fabulous garden. We loved it! Only negative is the 10am check out which is very early. 11 would be more helpful to guests. Thank you
We really loved the house and it's comfortable furniture, decorations etc, especially the beds and warmth from the aga. The garden was also well tended and lovely. We probably would have given it five stars if it had included a barbecue and a downstairs loo.
Sallie
The cottage had bags of character, was generously proportioned and had all the equipment we needed, and more. We enjoyed the welcome pack and that everything was ready to go. An important feature was the large and beautiful garden practical for small children and dogs but good to just sit out in. We had a lovely week here.
Sheena
This is our 2nd stay at this great farmhouse with family . The weather was glorious so the grandchildren spent most of their time playing in the garden.Once again we had an absolutely fantastic stay at Fair rigg making special memories with children and grandchildren . We love everything about this house . Thank you we will return .
Richard
A really lovely property in a great location with wonderful gardens. A little rose noise from the A590 is the only slight detractor.
Victoria
Fair Rigg was fantastic! The cottage was beautiful, clean and felt homely. The grounds were lovely and the dogs loved exploring them. Really helpful staff and a nice little welcome gift. Would highly recommend!
Joanne
Our 2nd stay at Fair Rigg and we loved it as much as our 1st visit. A house brimming with character set in beautiful grounds. Beautifully styled and equipped with everything you could need. We will be staying again.
Edward
We had a lovely time at the Fair Rigg. Great scenery and a beautiful old house. We would definitely recommend.
Leanie
Homely cottage! With very comfortable beds! Great location and very helpful couple who responded as soon as we needed Amat help or advice! Would defo recommend! We will be back!
Fair Rigg Old Farm is stunning. The photos do not do it justice, the grounds especially. Beautiful manicured gardens, very safe and enjoyed especially by an energetic Labrador. The aga was a treat to use and very convenient, not an issue even in one of the hottest weeks this year. The property again beautiful and extremely clean, quirky but with modern bathrooms. The tray of human and doggy goodies very welcoming too. Nick called in to make sure all was ok which was a nice touch! Unreservedly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay at Fair Rigg Old Farm, and hope we will return one day, we could not fault anything it is a truly 5star cottage.
Deborah
Absolute fabulous property and really enjoyed our stay. Never used an Aga before but great results! Only gripe would be that it does make the house very warm indeed would be wonderful in winter, but is a bit too much in July, even a cool July and we had to have lots of windows open which meant quite a lot of annoying flies came in! Also, maybe lighter tog duvets for summer would be better. But we had a wonderful time and would love to stay again, and this is probably the best holiday cottage weve stayed in! Definitely 1010!
Stacie
Lovely house and beautiful garden in a very convenient location for much of the lakes. Very low ceilings I am not tall and banged my head twice?! but that is part of the charm of what is a very traditional old house. Would definitely stay again.
Fabulous stay at Fair Rigg, lovely comfortable warm house. We are now converted to AGA cooking. All home comforts provided. Garden was beautiful, large and secure for the dog who loved wandering round the wood and hiding under the bushes. Central area for touring and great local walks.
Great cottage. Exactly as described. Clean and tidy on arrival. Nice location. Good price. We were are group of couples so 4x doubleking size beds were perfect. Kitchen excellent with all you needed. Few nice walks from door step. Would defo return. Thanks
Joanne
Absolutely perfect, weve used Lakelovers every year for last 12 years and always dismissed Fair Riggs as we thought it was too far south but ended up being our favourite cottage yet. So warm and welcoming and the garden was just perfect for the dogs. We normally do the big, popular walks in the Lakes but this time we just walked from the cottage and had some of the best walks weve ever had. Just a perfect holiday and cottage.
Katina
Lovely cottage, only downside is that there is a problem with flies there especially in the the main bedroom on the top floor. There were lots of dead flies on the carpet and bed and lots more flying around! I couldnt sleep as I was woken up by them landing on my arm and face and woke up one morning with a dead one underneath me in the bed! There was also a lot of buzzing coming from the beams in there. Very unfortunate as it is a lovely cottage and I did note it had been mentioned by other guests. It was also October not the Summer.
This cottage was amazing from the word go. It was the perfect retreat for me and my family along with other relatives. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and the only thing that stopped us getting any rest was a 11 month old excited toddling explorer which we had to keep away from the Aga, steps and fire, ornaments etc.The kids loved exploring and so did we, we can't wait to return.
Graham
Another fantastic week at Fair Rigg. The cottage is just ideal for us and our two dogs. We will return.
Ronald
We have to say that we were delighted with the property and the facilities it offered. At the very start, there was a lovely welcome pack including a bottle of wine and shortbread and the house was nicely prepared with a beautiful well kept large garden. The furnishings are to the standard of a well kept home and it is most comfortable to live in. Of course any home with a fully up and running AGA makes the kitchen a magnet for social gathering and as a result of this this, the house felt comfortable and warm. The house is a delightful property, in a beautiful location and we hope to be back before too long!
Amanda
Beautiful house, gorgeous gardens. Even enjoyed learning to use the Aga!
Maxine
Lovely well equipped cottage especially the kitchen if you enjoy cooking. It was a great place to stay for 4 couples as all the bedrooms had large doubles. Also got use of the garden this time which is very well looked after. Would highly recommend
We loved the property about to book again for next year The Lakeland weather lots rain limited our use of the garden but are hoping for better luck next time. The Aga was great we just wished we could sit at the island with a glass of wine One word of warning watch you head! The boot room door is sneaky!
