Blue Hill House Reviews

Nicholas
Overall, a great house and great place to stay. Four good bedrooms for 7 adults and a dog in our group and house overall has the space needed for a group this size. Great to be within an easy walk into Ambleside centre too and to have parking for two cars out front on the drive. Very convenient for a walk from the front door up Wansfell Pike too. I would stay here again. I noticed in the visitor book a lot of previous comments about the dishwasher not being great and that was also our experience. Frankly it needs replacing. It rarely cleaned plates, cutlery, glasses & mugs with only one wash and often needed two and then wasn't perfect even on intensive setting. For a house this big in which large groups stay, having an old and knackered dishwasher isn't acceptable. Replace it please! On the plus side, having separate washing machine and tumbler machines in the utility was really good all too often we find ourselves in houses with a combined washerdrier which rarely seem to function well as driers. Bed linen, towels, bathrooms, etc all great. Our dog loved sitting in the elevated conservatory watching the world going by when not too exhausted from our mountain walks.

We loved the location of Blue Hill House, which was only a 5 to10 minute walk into Ambleside, although it was slightly longer on the walk back as the hill is quite steep, which was not a problem for us but may be if you have mobility issues. We loved everything about the house as it is spacious, well decorated and furnished to a high standard. It is also warm and cosy and provides a lovely peaceful retreat after a day of walking the fells or visiting the many Lakeland towns and villages. There is every home comfort needed for a self catering holiday stay, although there are also plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants nearby if youd prefer to eat out. As we visited in February when the trees were bare, we had uninterrupted views of Loughrigg fell from the conservatory. This is where we spent most of our time whilst in the house, relaxing and enjoying the views. It is a great place to base yourself if visiting the Lake District and we would thoroughly recommend.
This is the 3rd year weve stayed here and the 1st time weve been a little disappointed. The heating didnt seem to kick in, even though wed turned the thermostats up. The only room that felt warm was the lounge if we had the fire on full. The shower in one of the downstairs bedrooms was faulty the shower head didnt work properly. There was only 1 teaspoon in the cutlery drawer. The WiFi is terrible even the BT box for the tv wouldnt work just kept saying weak signal. The house is in a perfect location but needs a little tlc , updating and maintenance. We also did think a Christmas tree would have put a nice touch as we were staying in December.
Excellent location for Ambleside and the surrounding areas, the accommodation has everything you need and is lovely. We all had enjoyed our stay
Great house, great location, the house is equipped very well, great walks straight from the front door. All you could want from a rental
The house was really well presented with those little touches that make a difference like thick fluffy towels, wine and biscuits on arrival and a helpful folder about the property and local area. The hill up to the house was steeper than expected and restricted my elderly mother to be able to walk locally. However a beautiful location, we made full use of the garden and conservatory on the gorgeous weather we were lucky to have. Close by to get to lots of places and already recommended to friends for a return visit.
The fridge had residual food and had not been cleaned, there was a dirty oven tray in the oven and several pieces of crockery needed cleaning before use which is all unusual as regular cottage users. We also had no heating for a couple of days which was sorted the day after we reported it. I do feel several windows need attention in the property. Other than that we had a nice stay lovely conservatory to sit in and very comfortable rooms.
Blue Hill house was a great 3 storey property perfect for a 3 generation holiday. The house was warm, clean & had a good well equipped kitchen. We received a welcoming bottle of wine & biscuits which were appreciated. Great holiday
Sykes Cottages have been absolutely abysmal as a company. It's now been 3 weeks that I've been awaiting a phone call to sort out the issue. We never went on this break, and have tried numerous times to talk to somebody about cancelling it, but the customer service has just been appalling. Still waiting to hear back from them!
