Gorse Bank Reviews

Duncan
An excellent base for the Duddon and Eskdale values. Broughton has some excellent pubs and independent shops.
Angela
Generally the house was well appointed and the bedroom space was good however the living room and kitchen were cramped for 7 people. We had to move the furniture around to create a more sociable space. The floor in the wet room does not slope adequately towards the drain. A screen between the shower and toilet would be helpful in preventing flooding. The heating was excellent the boiler was very responsive to the controller in the hall.

Excellent experience and all facilities were provided as given in the advertisement. On the last day of our stay hot water wasn't available on wash rooms for some reason, otherwise all good. Will prefer to stay again at Gorse Bank on our next Lake District visit.Thank you.
Not child friendly. No way of stopping children from walking out of garden. No door to kitchen. Location great, lovely and quiet.
Lovely stay at Gorse Bank again. The house is excellent in general. Just a few more kitchen utensils and jugs are needed, and better coveringsblackout blinds for the windows. This year we were prepared and took some dark sheets which we hung over the windows. Had a great time visiting Coniston Water did walking, boating, kayaking and went on the Steamer. The village is ideal, with beautiful local walks in Broughton Tower Estate, an excellent bakery, local shop and Antiques Centre.
Excellent base to do lakes and surrounding places of interest. House comfortable and quiet. Had everything we needed . Village shops excellent

We had a lovely weekend stay with the family at Gorse Bank. The location is great close enough to the centre of Broughton in Furness to walk in and also near enough to the rest of the Lakes to easily drive anywhere else. The cottage was very spacious and had all the facilities described. Kitchen large enough to cook in and everything provided that you would need. Rooms clean, tidy and comfortable. We had a great stay and would recommend.

Beautiful home that fit all seven of us adults in perfectly. Thank you for decorating it for Christmas, it was lovely to be able to put our presents around the tree. Although the fridge and freezer were small we compensated by using the conservatory as a cold room which helped. The beds were incredibly comfy, we all slept very well in them. The only downside for us were the steps into the property. The top step isn't large enough to safely put your foot on and also being on a slope it was a struggle for both my elderly parents and myself bilateral knee replacements to get in and out of the front door. We were lucky that it wasn't icy. The back door and conservatory were better exits but then we had to walk down a steep slope. Maybe some grab handles to aid us fogies would be nice, other than that the property was wonderful and we all had a brilliant Christmas together.

Great, traditional holiday home in a fabulous village with a couple of pubs, a Butchers, Bakers & a Candlestick maker! Also a great village shop with Deli & a post office
Pauline
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful house, you were so helpful bringing us the spade to dig us out of the snow and the offer to stay longer if we needed to. We all had a lovely time. The locals were brilliant at helping get us out of the drive so that we could get home. Such a lovely village spirit. Thank you.
For what we paid for Gorse bank cottage. it was good value. But i do think there is room for improvment . Think the cleanliness could be better. And i think better quality bedding and towels are needed . There is four bedrooms. but did feel cramped in the down stairs living space.
We booked a two week stay, it was like being at home with all the comforts you need in a lovely quite area. It was a great base to explore the local area.
Fantastic property as usual. The new sofas were a welcome and comfortable change. Hoping to rebook for next year.
Joanne
Lovely large home. Quiet area of the lakes. Very well equipped with everything you need for your stay. Beautiful Garden with added bonus of cows in field behind. There is wifi at the property but zero mobile signal to make calls or text. I had an electric car and there are charging points 2 min walk from property. Lovely walk along an old railway with stunning scenery. And the Bakery is a Must. Made a great base for getting out and about in the Lakes.
We had a wonderful week at Gorse Bank. The house was very comfy in general, and the owner was really helpful when we temporarily lost our car keys. She actually found them on her walk! Fantastic sunny weather, lovely market town with a brilliant bakery, everyone very friendly. Great to access all main attractions, Coniston Water especially. We would love to stay again, but there was only one issue which would help us for next time if it could be sorted out. The boys struggled to get off to sleep as the attic room and the single room were very bright. Ideally dark curtains in the single roomblackout roller blind and blackout blinds in the attic would easily solve the problem others have left similar comments in the visitors book. Also curtains in the front bedroom for the same reason would be greatly appreciated. Sleep is so important, especially on holiday. Many thanks.
We stayed here to tour the lakes on motorcycles, great location with great roads ... We stayed here to tour the lakes on motorcycles, great location with great roads from the door, cottage has everything you need in a lovely little village where you can get most essentials and a great pub

Graeme
Great week with family. Property was spotless and well supplied. Nice kitchen with ample pots and pans. Great cooker not cooked with gas for years, it was a treat. Bedrooms comfy. Warm throughout. Living room could really do with some additional thought into lighting. Due to its central location, there is little natural light, however ceiling light is far too bright for an evening. Needs some sidelamp lights for balance. The village was lovely. Small shop, butchers, baker and garage. Pubs were good. Would recommend Kings Head for food, the Manor for beer and chat. There is a third, you can make up your own mind. All in all, highly recommended. Thanks for having us.
Er. 3 of the non stick pans were badly scratched and not safe to use they must have been in this condition for some time. The walk in shower drain was partially blocked and progressively got worse over the stay flooding into adjoining utility room. I rang the contact number the response being the condition of the pans was known and there would be new ones for the next occupants! She was also aware of the shower issue but did not see it as a major problem. It wasn't pleasant wading in water and mopping out after use before the next person could use the facilities of the room.
Angela
Nice house in a lovely village, with three great pubs two of which serve lovely food. The house was let down a little by some of the furniture the beds and sofas were not very comfortable and could do with replacing. A bbq would also have been useful.
Mainly very good. Some window latches unsafe for small children, esp. top floor.
Really enjoyed our stay at Gorse Bank. The property and the location were lovely.
We all felt that the living room sofas needed to be replaced.
Great location and spacious cottage. One or two signs of wear, but nothing of any great concern. Would recommend.
Hannah
Nice house, beds were comfortable and the house was in a pleasant, quiet location. However, there were a few slight problems the fridge was too small for seven people. We had to clean the pans before we could start cooking. Definitely need curtains in the front bedroom.Nevertheless we had a good week. The owners left us some shortbread which was a nice touch.
Beautiful property. Very clean and well maintained. Much more space than we expected. Quiet location. Local shops are a very short walk away with very high quality produce. We had such a good time I already rebooked for 2022.
Lovely, clean and comfortable accommodation. We liked that it was in a pleasant and quiet location but the main hotspots of the Lake District were easily accessed.
The house is spacious and comfortable. The garden is large and the patio has a table to eat in or out. The kitchen is well equipped with a large oven. The conservatory down the side of the house is a bonus. The village is quiet and has a park for children . There are numerous walks and trails . A short drive away is Haverigg. It is great for the beach and good value for money pub family meals. The pubs in the village can be expensive.
A wonderful cottage in a brilliant village. The house is spacious and meets all expectations, bedrooms comfortable with a useful kitchen. The only downside would be the tv, a smart TV would be better. Will definitely be back in the not too distant future!
Slightly odd layout living room was between kitchen and dining room. Tv is one side of room and sofa the other with the kitchen door between so youre constantly walking in front of tv viewers between kitchen and dining room. Only a small detail but irritating. The dining room would make a lovely loungesitting room if swapped around.
Lovely spacious house situated in a nice little town close to many places of interest and beauty. Very comfortable beds and added bonus of having a TV in every room. Separate laundry room and downstairs wet room were useful. Lovely wood burner which we used on first night but central heating was ample for the rest of the week. Garden was up steep steps so not ideal for young children or elderly but there was a patio area with furniture which we used.
Sheila
This is the first time we have ever rented a house but we would definitely consider doing it again. Wonderful!
The cottage was very comfortable and extremely clean with great kitchen utensils. The utility room was a bonus after wet days walking. Having a tele in each room was outstanding, not that we had time to use them! Very well placed for the quieter part of the Lakes but also a good gateway to the whole national park. Nice touch of leaving welcome biscuits too. We walked all day and played games all evening. Just fantastic.
Ursula
Lovely house in a good location. We appreciated the measures put in place to minimise the Covid risk.
This property is situated in an excellent cumbrian village facilities are good several pubs , several cafes , petrol station and quality butchers Close to Coniston and other well known walking areas property very well equipt warm and comfortable.
GOrse Bank is in such a good location if, like us, you don't want to get in the car every day. An excellent grocer and baker are a short walk from the house with everything you need. There are also pubs serving food, including a Sunday roast at the Old Kings Head. Everyone was extremely friendly and that made the holiday even more special. On our last evening we went to the Blacksmiths Arms at Broughton Mills which is a really great familyrun pub with an exciting menu of chefcooked special meals. Such an authentic Lakeland atmosphere which was very special. We enjoyed some nice walks and touristy trips. The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway cannot be beaten for a lovely day out through wonderful scenery ending near Scafell with great walks before getting the train back. If you are interested in history don't miss Town End, a historic CUmberland farmhouse, but parking can be difficult there. Highlight a trip on the steam gondola at Lake Coniston. Lovely holiday in an exceptionally good spacious yet cosy cottage.
