Millans Garth Reviews

Andrew
This wellequipped property is central to all the amenities of Ambleside, and as there are only gentle hills to get anywhere, it is ideal for those who can't manage steep ones. It is in a quiet area of Ambleside. The dining room, which is off the kitchen, can comfortably seat 8 people The cosy sitting room can comfortably seat 8 as well. The beds are comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep.
Fantastic property, both in terms of the comfort of the cottage and the location too. Equipped with everything you would expect and more. Cant fault it, best cottage we have stayed in. We will be back.
I came up to Ambleside with some friends on our motorbikes so it was great to find this lovely cottage and that we all had separate rooms. We had everything and more that we needed, very clean and comfortable. There was a local Coop which we used to get bread, milk, coffee, tea, bacon & eggs. We tried out a few local pubs for food and drinks and everyone was welcoming, I would highly recommend Milan's Garth for easy walking distance to the town plus its very central to the rest of the lakes.

The cottage was ideally located, very close to town and all the facilities. The parking was easy and the parking permit really helpful. The cottage is spacious too and well equipped. I would say it could have been cleaner, cobwebs and bits on floor, dust and dirt were evident. The bed wasn't very comfortable either. Also could do with modernising and decorating. But overall a really enjoyable holiday.
Another lovely visit to Millans Garth! We were so lucky as the weather was FAB when we were there and such a great location to use as base when visiting lots of beautiful outlying area by bus. And always a pleasure to return to such a lovely, clean, comfortable and well stocked house. We look forward to returning x
We've had a another wonderful holiday booked through Sykes. The cottage was perfect for the seven of us. Right on the edge of the village, where there is lots of shops, cafes & restaurants to choose from. There are lots of great walks from the cottage too. The two parking permits were a very welcome addition. The Apple Pie cafe and Flying Fleece pub serve great food & drinks, both with lovely staff. Beatrix Potter World was a hit, even for the teens and good value for money. Hill Top House, was another great trip out for us, as was the walk from the village up to the waterfalls. We enjoyed our time so much, we've already booked the cottage again for next year!
We stayed at Millan's Garth during Half term in February. The house was in a really good location in the centre of Ambleside. We have stayed in a number of houses on this street and Millan's Garth certainly stands up to the others. The house is very comfortable for 5 people like we had for some of the week. The bedrooms are really comfortable and the 2 main bedrooms on each floor are very spacious. The beds are really comfortable and our nine year old daughter loved the little room on the second floor. The living room is really comfortable and the kitchen and dining room perfect if you don't want to eat out every night and cook for everyone instead. The 2 parking permits were a real bonus as most cottages only have one now. Thanks you for a lovely stay and hopefully we will return for another lovely visit to Ambleside and Millan's Garth. Paul, Rachel, Martha and Grandparents.

Just as described, we had a great weekend
Thank you for a providing this accommodation, it was exactly what we needed for our group. Really clean and well maintained. The only thing I would say could be improved is some handwash or soap, however I appreciate we should have brought some with us. Really nice place and great location.
Have stayed in this property before no problem. However..... On first day found shower door in lower floor bathroom had come of its runner, so door not usable.... Fixed that myself. Used bath in the same bathroom, water leaked through the ceiling into the kitchen..... Maintenance fixed loose overflow on bath. Main fuse supplying electricity to the property blew on New Year's Day.... No power at all to house... Mould started to appear in top bedroom prior to leaving..... The God's were obviously against us, but hopefully that's all our bad luck used for the rest of the year. Can't fault Laklovers for their response to our woes, but it didn't make for the most relaxing start to the New Year.
Absolutely lovely cottage in the heart of Ambleside. Well stocked and fantastically comfortable
This house is lovely. Everything we needed, I can honestly say we have never stayed in a house so we'll equipped. So close to the centre of Ambleside. Beds really comfy, nice and clean. Also nice and warm after returning from a rainy day. Will recommend to friends and family.
Very spacious and comfortable house. My 5th visit! It is very central within very easy non hill walk to the centre of Ambleside. Also great value for money. As ever, really enjoyed my stay. Thank you
Another lovely visit to Millans Garth x Our first visit in Autumn but didn't disappoint as provided us with all the warmth and home comforts we needed at this time of year. The house was immaculately clean and a great base for our trips out on buses and boats. Great to have the gas stove and large TV to return to. The location is fantastic and so quiet. Feels more like home each time we visit and hope to spend many more happy weeks there in 2025
Christina
Fantastic place, very central and yet quiet. We did many hiking and paddling trips and all no further than 30 mins from Ambleside. The house layout was perfect for two families. Highly recommend.
Very convenient for Ambleside with helpful info about walks and places to eat etc. Very good to have parking permit and extra permit for some local car parks. Heating worked well, we needed for couple of evenings. Very well stocked with sensible sized mugs, plates and cutlery. Surprised no dishwasher tablets left for us or we did not find them. Great to have good size and screen quality TV plus DVD player and DVDs, had iPlayer but did not have eg ITVx. Main shower is very easy to use and worked well but small. All in all super place to stay
Our second visit to this fab property and found it as lovely as in our 2022 visit ! Millans Garth offers everything and more we could ask for immaculately clean, so well stocked and comfortable and in perfect location. We used as a base for days out on the buses and boats as is centrally located and offers great access to so many places. This is as well as the lovely Ambleside itself with fab eating, drinking and cinema options. Te great bright sunny weather helped too! Hoping not to have to wait another 2 years to return x
Lovely big house. Very clean and well equipped. Great location. Parking good could park outside using road permit and second car in car park with other permit.
Lovely property in great location
Very pleased with the house and its facilities plus its proximity to the centre of Ambleside. An enjoyable stay all round.
Catherine
We have stayed in this house a number of times now. It's location is excellent and the layout and space suits us fantastically for two families.
Millans Garth is a lovely property just a few steps from Ambleside town centre. It is very spacious and comfortable, and well equipped. We were just 2 people, but there would have been plenty space for more. We highly recommend Millan's Garth.
One cannot fault the cleanliness, the closeness of the town center, the facilities on offer and the whole ambiance of the house and the area in and around Ambleside, but there are two health and safety warnings 1 The step in the kitchen needs a white line to highlight it to prevent people tripping up on it 2 More importantly the faulty ring on the cooker needs repairing instantly. It is an accident waiting to happen. There is a notice next to the cooker pointing out the faulty ring, but this has clearly been there for some time and as it is a front tring that is permanently on it is within reach of 'tiny hands' or distracted people and can therefore cause serious burns It is for this reason that I give them the lowest score for the last question
A very good base for Ambleside. The property is well maintained with just a couple of minor exceptions. The Slabs leading from the Back door would be a lot safer if they were cleaned with a power jet. As you know they are quite slippery after rainfall. The broken dial on the cooker urgently needs replacing. Even with the warning notice its a safety issue. Overall though, Its a fine property, and we may well revisit in the future.
Pauline
Our third time at Millans Garth, love it. Quiet street but only five minutes from all amenities and attractions in town centre. The house itself is large, loads of space and very well eqipped.
We had a great stay at Milans Garth, it more than lived up to expectations, being comfortable and maintained to a high standard. We have already recommended this cottage to others & will be hoping to stay again. We enjoyed being able to leave our car, doing a few walks from the cottage. Ambleside also has a really good choice of restaurants, cafes and bakeries. We found Ambleside & Millans Garth to be an ideal central base for both walks and exploring other villages of note, so hope to stay again & highly recommend.
Catherine
Excellent stay yet again. Your home is perfect for our two families visiting this area at this time of the year.
Excellent central location. Worked really well being able to sleep 6 adults in separate beds. Lots of living room as well.
Very well equipped accommodation and great location.
Had been to the property before, so knew what to expect. Delivered what we expected..... 6 Mark due to problems when rebooking.
Spot on for our requirements. Large Victorian roomy town house clean, comfy, well equipped and good location off main road but less 5 min to town centre. Provided 2 car park passes one for street parking outside house and the other for a public car park.
Meghna
Comfortable stay very convenient location in centre of Ambleside. Well equipped kitchen. Lovely cottage. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely perfect cottage actually lovely house for a threegeneration, 7person stay. High standard yet cosy, lots of lovely touches and the children really loved the toys, DVDs etc. Lovely location in the centre of town and parking was OK on the street. We will definitely book Millans Garth again.
Lesley
Very comfortable house with an extremely well equipped kitchen
Catherine
What an amazing location. So easy to walk into Ambleside to enjoy the lovely shops. We had no difficulty parking although went before the English school holidays. The property was easy to access permits in the house not at the Heart of the Lakes office as mentioned in emails so no need to rush before the office closes like we did and very nice. Comfortable living room with great TV and lovely big dining room table. Kitchen excellent only thing that would have made it better was a pair of oven gloves. The bedrooms were lovely with good views. Service from Heart of the Lakes was also excellent. The shower leaked on our first day and flooded through the ceiling. We called and a plumber came out within hours and fixed the problem without us needing to be there. We would definitely love to return one day.
Just finishing an amazing 2 weeks stay in Millans Garth. Absolutely loved our stay in this superb property which offered us all we needed and more. Very clean and comfortable well equipped house in fantastic location. Would love to live here but a return for longer would be great too x
Impressed. A wonderful house in a quiet location, yet with all of the facilities of Ambleside within very easy walking distance from the doorstep. Very well provisioned with everything you could need in the kitchen. The Heart of the Lakes team were helpful too. The number of guests who have been back and booked this property on multiple occasions is testament to its quality.
Great stay as always!
The people at the Heart of the Lakes were as always super helpful. Our advice is to communicate with them and NOT Sykes Cottages if you book through them. For a start their customer service people Sykes communicate with a no reply email address and after no fewer than 19 to a fro telephone calls they failed to help us with a parking permit problem whereas Heart of the Lakes were super helpful.
Denise
This is the third time we have stayed at Millans Garth, its position means we only used the car twice, so many walks straight from the front door. It has everything you could ask for, so much space Would highly recommend
