Stones Throw Cottage Reviews

Great cottage but unfortunately on this occasion let down by not having been cleaned properly. The sitting room in particular was covered in dog hair and dog excrement had been left in front garden. Unfortunately we werent able to hoover ourselves as the hoover bag was full of dog hair and a replacement wasnt provided when requested. Otherwise a really good cottage weve stayed here before and really liked it. Love the big kitchen table and fab location.
Second stay at Stonesthrow cottage. Great location as we love Ambleside. Well equipped cottage with everything you need just a few niggles but nothing to worry about. Sofas could do with hoovering underneath, oven doors dont shut properly and the hob is a bit temperamental and doesnt always work. We went to book for next year but couldnt due to the huge price increase which was 400 more for a week next year. We booked another cottage which was more reasonable. Overall we had a great time and would recommend this cottage if you can justify the cost!

Great location on a quiet street. The house is very well maintained and clean. Great basement kitchen that is light and airy, leading up to a garden with a paved parking space. Through the back gates and out so a bonus for accessing with my dog. I would have liked a television in the kitchen as that was where we were mainly based when in the house. As we had very wet weather we were housebound more than usual. My only other personal request would be to have a softer mattress or a bed topper that could be placed on for those of us who like a softer bed. Very nice stay
What a fantastic destination! The house is delightful. Comfortable and well equipped without going overboard and very well located close to Ambleside town centre. Parking was sometime a little tricky but between us we had four vehicles so thats to be expected. I loved the basement kitchendining area and the view from the back bedroom is stunning. Loved it, will be back!!
Gorgeous cottage in a great position in the town, with great spaces for an extended family holiday. Just for your information absolutely not complaining! there was no salt and pepper in the shakers, and some of the soap dispensers were empty in the bathrooms!
Stephen
Great family rental
Our only complaint was the broken shower cradle in the family bathroom and the limescale on all shower heads, which affected the pressure. Kitchen was really well stocked only missing a pizza cutter and wine stoppers, but that is a really small quibble! Other than that absolutely perfect and best cottage weve stayed in we will be back!
Wonderful house in an excellent location in the heart of Ambleside.
We had a lovely week at Stones Throw cottage. We have been staying in Ambleside for years and this was the best cottage we have stayed in. It was the perfect size for all of us, warm and cosy and in a brilliant location. We never had a problem parking with the permit and the parking space was ideal for our mini. We liked it so much, we have already booked for next year!
Louisa
Great property, fantastic location, brilliant holiday. Thank you
Was a lovely house and great location. Parking limited if more than 2 cars. Would have been nice to have a welcome pack with tea and coffee and milk Also a few basics such as salt and pepper. Everything else was good
A lovely location shower heads could have been better apart from this we had a lovely holiday
The property albiet is very nice. However it needs to be better described as the stairs were a real problem. We all felt scared on every set of them, especially the one leading upto the main bedroom. It was dangerous and we all agreed really not sure how it passed the Health and Safety legislation. The fridge freezer broke down wholstcwe were there, it took many phone calls to get a fridge for us. We had to throw away alot of food we had bought. There has been no response from the owner or apology. Would we stay at Stone Cottage again, NO. Would we book with lakelovers again, sorry but no.

There was ongoing work being done , so a scaffold was out the back , but because of the honesty we were told it would be there and a 25 discount due to the scaffold , it wasnt an issue for us , an absolutely superb place to stay
Shower in ensuite blocked very quick service in resolving TV in both living rooms needs upgrading, picture often distorted and takes ages to load streaming services. Its a great property and we were given plenty of notice re bathroom out of action and generous refund however we couldnt get anything else to meet our needs so this did mean putting elderly parents on top floor, this house has a lot of stairs so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Otherwise its a lovely place with a really great basement kitchen and big seating area. Perfect for Ambleside as town literally a minute around the corner.
Steven
Great property, and location let down by generally poor maintenance and uncleanliness. Reported to LL upon check in.

Had a lovely break cottage was excellent only one niggle the heating especially in the kitchen but we managed and it did not stop us having lovely family time together cottage is an excellent base and try the fish and chip shop on the corner of entrance to Milans park would like to return as well as had a lovely visit
Oliver
A wonderful property in a great location. We were very happy with our stay.
Perfect holiday cottage for a family and best location.
Claire
The cottage is well laid out and well presented and the beds were really comfortable. We were extremely pleased with how clean and well maintained the inside of the property was, and we saw how the owners have listened to feedback of previous guests. We can tell they care about everyone enjoying their stay and have made sure to include everything guests might need.
We love Stones Throw, it has everything you need and is very nicely presented and being dog friendly and great quality is perfect. We stayed previously in 2015 we would have been back sooner but its always booked up and we were very impressed that it is still in such lovely condition, very well maintained. The only thing I would change is a bigger Tv would be nice.
Really enjoyed our stay at Stones Throw Cottage, which is very well situated for the village of Ambleside. The cottage is very well appointed and has everything you could want. It is much bigger on the inside that it looks. Lots of local information available which is a plus. We were a family of 4 adults and 3 children aged 8&9. The children loved the cottage and nicknamed the kitchen the pub due to the large table which was brilliant for playing board games. The fact that it is on 4 floors works very well as it gives space for different families. The bedrooms are all good sizes and very nicely presented. We had a really good pizza from Mama Mia pizzeria, 5 minute walk away. The parking for the second car is tight but we managed to get a Kia Sportage in but it was really tricky to get it out. I would agree with some other reviews that it would be nice if it was turned into a garden, the public car park is very close and parking passes arent that expensive. Parking outside the house with the permit was fine. We would recommend and would book again if we were holidaying in that area.
What an amazing house in the centre of Ambleside with easy access to everything, ... What an amazing house in the centre of Ambleside with easy access to everything, having stayed in 7 different properties over the years, this is one I would definitely book again
We had a lovely Christmas week at Stone's Throw Cottage and have stayed here several times. It was as lovely as ever. The kitchen is perfect for board games and has all the equipment needed for our family of four adults and dog. The beds are really comfortable and warm. We really appreciated the Bath House soap supplied this year and also the Christmas Tree and the dog bowls and poo bags! It is in a great location on a quiet road but within 5 minutes walk to town. We rarely use our car when we stay here as many wonderful walks are on your doorstep, Wansfell, Loughrigg and Grasmere to name a few. We are sure to be back again.
Catherine
Great for fully mobile, but stairs narrow and steep which was difficult for my elderly parents. option of stair gates would be good for those with a young family. The property was cosy, clean and plenty spacious enough for 8 of us. The kitchen was a lovely set up and well equipped. The house is in a lovely quiet road which is 2 mins walk from the shops, bars and restaurants. The parking at the back is a little tricky, but there is permit parking right outside the front door for 1 car. We booked last minute, and the communication was excellent. I would definitely recommend this company and property
Andrea
We enjoyed our stay at Stones Throw Cottage it is in a great location in the centre of Ambleside for visiting shops and restaurants. However, the cottage is looking a little tired in areas, especially upstairs bathrooms and outside spaces and could benefit from some tlc. The parking space to the rear is accessed by an exceptionally narrow lane and only suitable for very very small cars.
We had a great stay at Stones Throw Cottage and enjoyed the combination of being so close to the town, yet on a lovely quiet street, and with excellent walking to be had right from the door. The house as well set up and comfortable too. One suggestion the back yard was extremely tight for parking even for our Golf only 12 inches each side in the lane and turning in so given the property cost these days it might be better to provide a second parking permit for the road and rework this as a little garden?
Michal
Our stay as two families was very pleasant . The cottage had everything what was needed. Clean and very comfortable. Enough space to rest and play games. Very close to the centre, shops, pubs and lovely walks. Very quiet area. Parking for two cars, but the path to get to the rear parking space very narrow. I would recommend this place.
Stephen
The positive is cottage is ideally situated and we did have a good holiday, especially as the weather was fantastic for March. Unfortunately there are a few negatives 1. It states in the information that you can park a small car at the rear. You cant, the neighbours have bins stored in the passageway and it is impossible to get a car down. 2. The heating system. It was so hot at night after 11pm, however the kitchen area was like a fridge most of the time. 3. The cottage is advertised as sleeping 8 which it does, but it is a tight squeeze. You all cannot sit together in any room other than the kitchen.
Excellent property spoilt by lack of attention to detail. No hand wash in any of the containers 5 plus empty large refill under sink. No kitchen roll. Chipped pots in cupboard. Fault with heating kitchen radiators working intermittently when rest of heating is on. This problem with heating has been reported on numerous occasions over the past few years why has it not been fixed? Kitchen too cold for dining. Car permit had expired 3 weeks before our visit. Reported to Lakelovers no solution. Spent week worrying we would receive parking fine. We found it extremely difficult to park small second car in rear parking spot 2 permits needed.
We had a lovely stay. We would have given top marks if the kitchen hadn't been cold most of the time. Unusable in the mornings, had to eat evening meals upstairs which was difficult as the coffe table in back livingroom was small, nest of tables would be useful. Not sure of heating settings were correct for time of year.
Elaine
Couldnt use microwave childproof lock on it. Dirty under sofas, wrapping paper etc. 3 chipped mugs which I left out for cleaner to see. very little toilet paper and handwash left. Heating very intermittent. This is our fifth stay at Stones throw but decided not to book for next year due to huge increase in cost of house. Almost Doubled over last 6 years.
Excellent property, it contained everything we needed. We recommend not trying to use the parking at the rear of the property. Way to tight to get a normal family car in. The front garden was definitely in need of attention. Other than the above just perfect.
Cheryl
Excellent location, very well equipped and a nice welcoming feel to the property.
The front garden needed a tidy up other than that a very comfortable stay. Due to the number of bedrooms available at least two car parking permits would be an asset as very difficult to get a vehicle round the back and in the rear garden area.
William
Excellent accommodation well equipped and comfortable excellent location just yards from shops and restaurants. One small criticism could do with better out door seating but overall excellent.
Stones Throw Cottage was a perfect house for our week away. Location was amazing. The house was a more then big enough for 4 adults and a child. The 2 reception rooms meant we could have a room for my daughter and a adults room. The kitchen dinner lay out was perfect for meal times and playing games. Stones Throw Cottage has been equipped well for a child. Plastic plates, cutlery etc. Step in the bathroom and toys. Would highly recommend it.
