The Old Police House Reviews

The Old Police House is a fantastic house in one of the best locations in the Lake District. I cant recommend this property highly enough, we enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked again for next year.
Glynis
Wonderful holiday property, with good parking, in a terrific location. Literally only short steps from Grasmere centre but managing to be peaceful, especially when sitting out in the well kept front garden. Comfy furniture in all the separate sitting areas, very accommodating for everyone. Only downsides were the extremely bright safety lights everywhere, and thin, worn out pillows that really needed replacing.

We have stayed here with frlends for I think seven years. Booked for next year. Ideal location and a superb property. Keith Thomas
We spent one week at the Old Police House as a group of seven with ages ranging from 4179. We had a wonderful week and with the exception of one minor issue not being able to control the heating thermostat meant we had one very, very warm evening! we thoroughly enjoyed our break. The house feels very homely and the seating area options meant you had a choice between sitting together as a group or breakingoff to find some quiet space. The views are spectacular and the house is ideally located for a walk up to Silver How for more stunning vistas.
Judith
Super refurbished house. Well designed. Only suggestion is to put hooks on the walls in twin bedrooms as four people using bathroom and nowhere to hang towels. We had a lovely stay. Please let the owners know Judith x

Beautiful house in a stunning location! The house had all the amenities you could require and the views from the upstairs lounge were amazing! Will definitely stay again.
The Old Police House is an amazing property and perfectly central to get the best of the views and the convenience of beautiful Grasmere.
A delightful property. Extremely well appointed and in an ideal location. We especially enjoyed cooking in the well equipped kitchen. We appreciated the stylish bathrooms and comfortable bedrooms. Views from the upstairs sitting room were truly spectacular. Would love to visit again
The property is in an ideal location in Grasmere. The views from the upstairs living room across to Silver How are just beautiful. There are lots of fabulous walks from the doorstep and easy access to the shops in the village. The property itself is very well equipped and was extremely clean. My friends and I had gathered for a weekend to celebrate a special birthday and it was just perfect helped on by a very warm sunny weekend in March !

We have visited The Old Police House since before the renovations, and numerous times since. It always fills our needs. This year was the 80th birthday of one of our group, and we had a great time. Thank you.
The old police house is a lovely contemporary house with all mod cons, a fantastic kitchen and great mezzanine sitting area with fantastic views. It is in a great location with Grasmere village literally on the doorstep and great for several fell walks from the house. The bedrooms are lovely and bathroom facilities were great. Our only issue was that downstairs the underfloor heating could not be felt meaning the downstairs bedroom was cold especially at this time of year. The radiators elsewhere got warm but not hot enough to dry clothes quickly if you got soaked. It felt the heating could not be controlled to any great degree if you wanted it to be warmer.

The key in safe doesn't say which door it is for. I was trying to open back door

Wonderful stay and have already booked for 2025
Super property. Have stayed here 7 times now!! Small concerns though. Hoover did not work well when used just before we left and it smelt of wet dog!! In the upstairs big bedroom king size bed never has a bottom sheet that tucks in the top properly. Bedside tables far too big so cleaners must struggle to make the bed. Frying pans apart from one, all old and have lost their non stick finish. Are booking it for next year!!!! X
Loved the holiday and loved the Old Police House for location, size and stunning views. Only two points to make it perfect. The floor outside the main bathroom needs fixing, the first time I stepped on it, I thought that I would go through the ceiling. Secondly, the courtesy light on the landing needs adjusting, five minutes is too long 30 seconds would be sufficient.
Beautiful house in a beautiful location. It was comfortable with all the amenities you need. The only niggles were that there is only one bin for the property and when we arrived it was three quarters full so we were having to take the rubbish elsewhere until bin collection day which was towards the end of the holiday. The property would benefit from the downstairs lounge being upgraded, it's quite worn and not in keeping with the rest of the property.
Wonderful property and perfect for our family. Ground floor bedroom meant my elderly parents managed with ease and village location great. We had a fabulous week in this immaculate, well equipped house and would highly recommend.
William
The venue was great and as advertised. The house was immaculate and great stay. Feedback Please provide stairgate for children as this is a family setup and would help on stairs. The automatic light in the hallway upstairs how can this be switched off as does potentially wake up sleepers. Heating was very hot needs turning down at points but locked?
Rachel
The house was immaculately clean and well appointed. Beautiful views from the picture windows. Warm throughout. The position was quiet up a road off the main square. All in all a perfect place to spend a week. I had hoped to see red squirrels around Grasmere but as always they proved to be elusive!
Glennys
My friends and I have visited this property numerous times, before and since the renovations. We always love staying there. As we get older, we spend more time in the house, as our walks get shorter. But sitting in the upstairs lounge looking out at the fells is very satisfying. Thank you.
Second time weve stayed there and never disappointed. Lovely property and location . Thankyou
A lovely house in a great position. The beds were very comfortable & nice to have a couple of rooms to relax in although the top room with the great view was the most popular. When we arrived 22nd December we found the bin to be almost half full so had to leave some boxes & Christmas bags in the kitchen as raining outside for the cleaner to dispose of as we couldnt get them in the cars to take home. Also, the ceiling light in between the two single bedrooms which automatically comes on was far too bright if visiting the bathroom in the night. Maybe one in the socket as in other areas would be better & not so bright. We would definitely stay there again if we were having another family break. Thank you for providing such a lovely home to stay in.
We had the most fabulous holiday at The Old Police House, thank you for allowing us to experience your beautiful home amid breathtaking scenery. We arrived on Friday 1st December to a frosty landscape. We were overjoyed to wake up on Saturday morning to a veritable Winter Wonderland perfect as it was my 40th birthday celebration! We felt we were on the set of The Holiday'! The heavy snow continued all day and we had to abandon plans to drive for lunch to Ambleside, but never mind, as we were accommodated at The Wordsworth Hotel in the village, which was delightful. The evening was spent making snowmen in your front garden, feeding the birds and having lots of fun! We loved the location of the house, such a short, easy stroll to a fantastic selection of cafes, pubs, art galleries, shops, coop. The toy shop in the village has to be the best toy shop we have been in, our children loved it! We also enjoyed exploring the wider area by car once the snow had melted, some fantastic countryside. Now to the house we appreciate the high quality of the build and dcor. We have had everything we have needed, from crisp white bedding and fluffy towels to a superbly equipped kitchen, bathrooms etc. We have been warm and found the downstairs lounge particularly cosy. Great selection of DVD's, books, games. The children in our party 13, 5 and 2 years have loved being here. The eight of us have had plenty of room to spread out over the different lounges. The house was extremely clean and smelt clean. We met your cleaner, she is lovely and an asset to your team. We appreciated that all furniture well maintained and comfy. To have made the stay even better, we would have liked a dining table that seated all 8 of us in the party, so that we could have shared meals together. Two did sit at the breakfast bar, but an 8 seater dining table would be welcomed. Some hooks in bathrooms to hang up dressing gowns, clothes etc would have been helpful and a welcome pack milk, few teabags, biscuits etc. would be a nice touch for guests. Thank you once again, Graham and Caroline for a fabulous stay. We will definitely recommend and hope to return in the future
Daniel
The heating was on a little high, which we did turn down, but it always seemed to stay high on the thermostat. Apart from that, the property was excellent in every way and we will book it again next year, its perfect!
Property is magnificent! Wonderful week spent there with my family. Thank you.
A well appointed property on the edge of Grasmere with super views. Two minutes and you are in the Coop or the marvellous book shop. Back at the house you feel you are out in the countryside. It is warm and cosy and has everything you might require. No need to use the car as there are high and low walks from the front door.
Alison
Well equipped property with beautiful views.
Claire
Excellent house, very well set up, and extremely comfortable. Fabulous location for all that Grasmere has to offer. Only niggle a very small one is lack of privacy in front garden. I would raise the fence height by 2 feet, either by fence or shrubbery, as there is no privacy when sitting outside and the lane in front of the garden has many walkers using it. And because it is such a beautiful house, everyone cannot help but look at it!
Patricia Joyce
We had a brilliant time our third visit to this stunning property. We find its design amazing with the fantastic windows giving full views of the glorious surroundings, while much attention has been devoted to rendering all the rooms tasteful, attractive and comfortable. With so many superb and high quality features, the Old Police House provides the most perfect base for staying in the gem that is Grasmere.
Another wonderful stay in this fantastic property. Gorgeous views, extremely wellequipped kitchen and a location that is literally in the heart of the village. We love it.
Colette
We had a wonderful week the house was lovely. Only problem was the cleanliness issues. The fridge drawer full of crumbs. Freezer was the same. Downstairs bathroom had lots of mould around shower bottom and bath taps. It could have been easily washed off. Under the furniture in Downstairs bedroom there was sweet wrappers. In the upstairs double there was a dirty tissue behind bedside drawers. Nothing that spoilt the holiday but things you'd not expect or want to find in your holiday home.
This is a beautiful property in a beautiful and convenient location. Having uninterrupted views to Silver Howe lifted all our spirits. So many possibilities to walk from the house was great a few minutes on the flat to the village for those with mobility problems and many possibilities to hills and tarns for those who wanted to explore further to hike and wild swim. The layout of the house is great with everything we needed and ground floor space for my elderly Mum. The kitchen is very well equipped. We filled the bird feeders and enjoyed watching the birds, sat on the patio or opened the upstairs living room trifold doors and watched and waved to the passersby. Two things that would have made it even better we washed pretty much everything in the kitchen before use as it hadnt been cleaned properly in the dishwasher and so had food residue on it cant believe people put stuff away like this but maybe the cleaners need to check this? Put instructions on the dishwasher about rinsing food, leaving gaps between things, not blocking the rotating arm? took us a couple of washes to get a wash where everything was clean and didnt need re washing by hand. We found the thermostats set too high and though they are easy to reset, the timings meant getting up after going to bed to reset them and waking up in the morning overheated and resetting them. Consider some adjustment to the programmes and just overall lower temperatures set to avoid this. The house is really well insulated so not sure why the temperatures need to be set so high.
Loved our stay at The Old Police House it was our second visit our first being in 2018 and it was just as we remembered The house itself has the wow factor especially the upstairs lounge which has amazing views of the fells. It was nice to come back to the house after being out for the day as it was so warm and cosy.We hope to return again. The Old Police House is a credit to the owners.Thank you for a wonderful stay at your beautiful house .We weren't able to leave a comment at the house as the guest book was full
We have stayed in the Old Police House probably 4 times now and it is booked for September 2023 too! ! There are 4 of us, 2 couples and it is ideal. It is warm, cosy, well equipped and in a perfect location. Even better now there is a king sized bed upstairs!!! The kettle is leaking badly from the base. We left a note. We filled the bird feeders!! Jill Russell and Gillian Thomas
We enjoyed our stay and for our family of 4 we had ample room. The property has been well designed with great views and pleasant evening sun. The only issue we had is around the comfort of the single beds in both of the twin rooms. We would love to rebook for next near BUT need some assurances that they single beds in the twin rooms and need mattress toppers which are NOT expensive as our teenage daughters could feel the springs from the mattresses. One of our daughters complained of sleeping badly each night which I find unacceptable at this price bracket quite frankly. Everything else felt like a homefromhome so ideal! PLEASE FIX SINGLE BEDS!!
A fantastic property in an ideal location, very well equipped & comfortable with amazing views & many walks from the door. Been visiting Grasmere for many years & that was the best weather we've ever had. Would love to return to the Police House if the price was reduced as very expensive. It was a special celebration for us with our family so thank you so much for a very memorable week !
Robert
Lovely modern property fantastic location I could quite happily live there !
Sandra
Extremely disappointed that there was not a hairdryer. Clearly this had been a problem for other people as we found an empty hairdryer box in one of the cupboards. In 35 years of holidays in the lakes we have never had a house without a hairdryer. As we all have hairdryers at home we didn't want to buy another and even rang to ask if it would be possible to borrow one. This did spoil our experience somewhat.
No hairdryer provided otherwise great house with superb views
