Archie's Reviews

Andrea
Great location in the middle of Ambleside with easy private parking. Rooms & bathrooms all very lovely. But a few niggles seeing as you're asking. 1 the bedroom in the basement is so much smaller than the others and feels like you are in a basement. Shower mastik a bit mouldy. But the main drawback is the noise when other bathrooms in the property turn on taps or flush their toilets the noise water hammer? Too high water pressure? wakens those in that room. We all agreed after the first night not to turn on taps or flush loos overnight anywhere which is a bit inconvenient. 2 loads of dog hair on the sofas and we don't have a dog.

We were 8 adults enjoying our spring break at Archies . We all loved the house and its position . We were able to leave our cars at the property and walk into Ambleside or take the nearby bus to other local places . We were able to use both gardens at Archies following the sun at different times of the day . Archies had everything we needed and more . So much to do and see locally . All enjoyed their visit and would happily return . Thank you
Victoria
We chose Archies to celebrate our Golden Wedding along with our children and grandchildren 6 adults, 2 children,1infant and 2 dogs. The house provided us with every facility, spacious accommodation well equipped kitchen, on 3 levels everyone had their own space, the accommodation did not disappoint and everyone was catered for. The chef we hired prepared and cooked our celebratory meal in the excellently equipped kitchen and served in the lovely appointed dining room. All the grandchildren played with the numerous toys and activities provided by the owner who have thought of everything. Family walks direct from the house, playground, pubs and eateries all within easy walking distance. Local walks from the doorstep up to Stockghyll Force and beyond. The 3 family cars were redundant and remained on the spacious driveway. The inclement weather was usual for the time of year but the warmth and comfort of Archies enveloped us each time we returned back inside. Thank you Archies for contributing to our magical 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary, warmest wishes to the owner, Sykes Cottages and all involved. Victoria

What a beautiful house, centrally located and close to amenities. The house is set over 3 floors and has seating areas on two floors. We found ourselves cosing up in the basement snug. Everything is of a high standard and tastefully decorated. Plenty of games for your entertainment. Our bookclub had a great time.
Hayley
We had a great family stay at Archies . The house is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped although no potato peeler Located in central Ambleside with plenty of parking, once parked up we never used the cars during our stay . One slight niggle there is no manual switch for outdoor lighting they came on one night out of our three night a stay . It is very dark on the back steps and a torch is needed . However great property highly recommended.
Angela
4th bedroom and ensuite much smaller than the others. We also lost hot water occasionally. Other than that the property was perfect. The owner has thought of everything. Down to everything you could possibly need within the kitchen to games and toys for the children. Its also a great base to explore the Lakes with all amenities close by. Will be booking again.
Pauline
We have an excellent stay in a comfortable and well resourced snd maintained property. We had everything we needed and more. Thank you
Kathryn
Archies cottage was absolutely fabulous, perfect location and met our requirements. However our experience of Sykes wasnt as good. On arrival we found the green waste bin completely full leaving us nowhere to put any rubbish. Tried to contact Sykes by phone, email, WhatsApp and chat from Friday to Monday but no response. Went into Lakelovers office on Monday and the staff there resolved the issue later on the day. We had already taken some recycling ourselves. Not good enough Sykes
We had a delightful stay at Archies. Everything was as stated and it was so well equipped. We would definitely book again if planning another family get together.
Wonderful stay at Archies which is a beautifully decorated and very well equipped. It is a credit to its owners. The property is well located in Ambleside with ample parking.
Denise
This property was perfect for our group of 3 couples. It ticked all of our requirements, plenty of off road parking, ensuite bedrooms, good location. Archie's is very comfortable, clean and well equipped the welcome pack was a nice touch. We will definitely book again.
Stunning property and really worked well for our group. Dog friendly, plenty of parking and superbly located.
Francis
Lovely property great location with on site parking for at least 4 cars at the rear of the property. A few minor issues broken door handle in the sun room otherwise we had a great time at Archies.
Archie's is a wonderful house in a lovely location. There is everything you need from toys for the kids to bowls for dogs. The downstairs snug area is perfect for relaxing and the 4 en suite bedrooms are very comfortable. I would recommend Archie's to anyone.
Andrew
Archies is a beautiful property, very spacious and comfortable. Has all the things you need for a great stay. Some areas for possible improvements, fridge space very tight when trying to get in enough food for Xmas stay, had to store drinks outside. TVs are a little dated now, but used own IPad for streaming movies etc.
Debbie
Enjoyed the stay lovely house, central to all facilities having parking space for more than one car really good. Toys and games for the children great everything supplied to make it home from home. Couple of negatives the heat in the downstairs toilet unbearable and on removing bedding there are pillows that were quite grubby, definitely need replacing.
7 of us have had a lovely weekend stay for my mums 80th Birthday and would love to return. The house is spacious and has absolutely everything that you could possibly need. Would highly recommend
Jennifer
He house was large, well equipped and comfortable. Lots of thoughtful extras e.g. games, umbrellas, dvds, welcome basket. Issues it was far too hot and the heating was locked on timers. We tried to turn off the underfloor heating in the lower ground floor but it didnt go off. The steps to the garden are so slippery when wet that they are dangerous.
Excellent service from Sykes.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Archies. It is well positioned near to all the facilities of Amberside. The house is exceedingly comfortable and well appointed.
Lorraine
Fantastic property in centre of Ambleside, excellent off street parking, private and secure well maintained gardens for family and four legged friend to enjoy.
Gordon
A beautiful well appointed home. Bedrooms beautifully furnished and extremely well stocked kitchen The only drawback we found that it would have been very handy to have had a small cloakroom toilet downstairs to use during the day.
Susanne
We've had a fantastic few days staying at Archie's It was the perfect location for us. Just a few minutes walk into Ambleside with plenty of shops to browse in, and so many cafesrestaurants for coffee breaks and food! The lake was just a few minutes away, and a fantastic regular bus service so no need to use the car. The house is beautiful. The bedrooms were spacious and we all enjoyed having the luxury of our own en suite bathrooms. Plenty of hot water, comfy beds, and the house was lovely and warm. The kitchen was well equipped and the welcome basket with teabags, coffee, biscuits and wine was very well received after a 5 hour drive. We would definitely recommend staying at Archie's and will return again.
Clean, warm, and close to Ambleside without being noisy. Extremely well equipped ,nicely furnished with ample seating. Upstairs lounge tidy, downstairs lounge well used with comfy seating but the sofas were shedding feathers which could be a problem for an asthmatic. The only minor problem was the outside lights to the car park didn't work which made it tricky in the dark icy conditions. Would definitely come again
Apologies, 3 glasses broke during our stay, all 3 emerged from the dishwasher broken. Archie's is superbly equipped and appointed, and that's why we've stayed 4 years running. We're ringing the changes next year, but I feel sure we will return again in the future.
This was our third stay at Archies and as usual it didn't disappoint. It was a large family gathering and there was plenty of space in the house for all of us.. The dog friendly gardens are a real boon and parking in the centre of Ambleside for four cars is a real bonus. Everything you need is provided for amply, and we would definitely recommend to our friends.
Very nice house, and the team responded quickly to a maintenance issue
Richard
Our second stay at Archies and would certainly book this property again. Perfect accommodation for our family group and two dogs. Ideal location with lots of good places to eat and drink. Very dog friendly. Heated towel rail missing in ground floor bedroom no. 4 this year.
Alison
Beautiful property and ideal location. We had a leaky radiator but the friendly maintenance guys fixed it within 30 minutes. Excellent service.
Andrew
Superbly equipped, very clean and spacious property. Great location. Some of the furnishings on the ground floor are looking a bit past it. Boiler failed a couple of times due to a leaking towel rail the maintenance team responded really quickly to rectify the issue.
This is our third stay at Archies, aiming to book there for the summer and enjoy the garden. Great house, fantastic location,
Archies is a fantastic property. We were a group of 7 ranging in age from 14 to 80 and it covered all our needs perfectly. The property is really well equipped with everything you could possibly need. All of the bedrooms being ensuite was a definite plus for us and the two upstairs and ground floor bedrooms in particular were large and spacious and extremely comfortable. The smaller lower ground bedroom was great for the younger members of our group. As we had our dog, Henry with us we tended to base ourselves on the lower ground floor where the kitchen, dining room and snug are situated and access to the enclosed garden is from the kitchen. This worked perfectly for us and Henry was very happy in his new surroundings! The only slight issue I would agree with from earlier reviewers is that the smaller sofa and armchair in the snug may have seen better days. The upholstery is sagging a little which made it more difficult for the older member of our group to get comfortable. All in all a wonderful stay in a fantastic property and we will most definitely be back!
Absolutely loved our stay at Archie's. Perfect location and facilities for our group of 7 we couldn't fault it and will definitely be back again! Thank you
Kathleen
As with previous guests, our only issues were with the lack of adequate heating in the 3 bigger bathrooms or the ability to regulate it and the need for replacement of the tired and not very comfortable sofas and armchairs in both sitting rooms.
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Archies, couldnt fault a single thing, Extremely comfortable, spacious and very well equipped. Acres of quality space both inside inside and out. An absolute credit to the owners who obviously take pride in presenting their property to the highest standard. We will definitely be staying at this property again in the near future.
The house is so clean and comfortable we all really enjoyed using it.
Archies is a beautiful holiday Cottage, It is nicely decorated with such luxury finishes also lovely & clean. All the furnishings are very comfy & we spent most of our time in the evenings in the cosy lounge just off from the kitchen, it was a perfect place for friends & family gathering. Everything has been thought of to suit all generations, Its a well deserved five star accomodation.
