Hillhead Reviews

We certainly lacked for nothing in the way of equipment kitchen or electrical. The views from the kitchen and living room were stunning. We loved the log burning stove. The beds were all very comfortable. Drying facilities for wet clothes were spot on.

Had a lovely mini break in the lakes at Hillhead, perfect location for access to the fells to the North of Ambleside, with great balcony views of Wansfell Pike. The town was a 1015 minute walk depending if you were going down or up the hill. Well appointed, comfortable house with plenty of toiletsshowers and a well equipped kitchen.
Really nice house in a good location we enjoyed being close to the fells and whilst the walk down to Ambleside is 5 mins it takes longer up the hill to walk back. The house was very comfortable, we had to turn most of the radiators downoff at it was too hot! Really well equipped kitchen note that there was no kitchen roll and a pint of milk would have been nice but small detail. Loved the layout of the rooms, beds all very comfortable and plenty of wardrobe space. Showersbathrooms all good with plenty of hot water available. I struggled to know exactly which council bin waste should go into. One of the black bins had a message but I couldn't read it and recycling didn't seem to be an option. At the end of the stay we didn't know whether or not to strip the beds so just left the towels in the bathrooms and left the beds as they were. Overall this is a fabulous property and we loved our stay. Ambleside is a lovely town and well located to access Grasmere, Keswick, Hawkshead and Coniston. Would definitely consider staying at Hillhead in the future.

What a fabulous location with amazing views of the fells. The balcony was amazing and the garden was beautiful to sit and relax in if you had time!. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and the kitchen was equipped with everything you would need. The walk up the hill was ok for us as we're used to hill climbing so wouldn't put us off at all the bonus was that it was an extremely quiet area with access to the valley walks at the end of the lane so nice and peaceful. We would definitely return here with family andor friends.

This is a fabulous house. The owners have done a wonderful job of creating a well appointed and well stocked home from home. Points to note The EV charger is Hive, and if you arent familiar with it, its a nuisance to use. In the end we couldnt use it. In terms of things outside of the control of the owners, it is a smoke free house, however the previous occupants had smoked here. The smell in the house and piles of cigarette butts in the garden gave this away. We did ask for them to be cleared but they werent. One of the bedrooms had been overly scented by the cleaner, the reason became clear a day or two into our stay, the bedroom smelt of urine and vomit. Probably the mattress which had been turned and clearly had stains on it. The maintenance cleanliness was clearly poor. The house itself great

Very surprised a decorated Xmas tree was in the lounge on 9th Jan. RHS of toaster did not work Difficult breakfast for 8 people ..2 Slices at a time Downstairs garden room had very now and then flush !!Days before I had emailed Skyes twice with questions ....most important was logs for wood burner .They did not reply After arrival we purchased logs and left a supply It would have been helpful to have known none were at the property . I did not advise this on the visitors book Overall we really enjoyed the house as did our six guests I have mentioned the above as all can be sorted easily
Hillhead is a fantastic property in every way. Very spacious and well equipped to cater comfortably for 8 people. Loved it so much we have already booked for next Christmas
This is by far the best holiday home we have ever stayed in. It is beautifully decorated even down to the quality of the pictures on the walls. It is fully equipped with high quality kitchen and home wares for 8 adults. As long as you dont mind a steep hill, the location is fantastic and the views stunning. We had the best week where all of our adult children and partners were able to come together and have enough space to do their own thing when needed. I could not recommend this property more highly.
Beautiful place to stay , excellent property with great facilities. The only slightly negative would be the fact that its at the top of a very steep hill and it wasnt clear that this was the case . Not a huge negative but maybe for someone with restricted mobility
Esther
Lovely views from the terrace of the property. Superb kitchendiner that is wellequipped with everything you need. Bedrooms were all comfortable and excellent water pressure showers. Peaceful area up a steep hill, but a slightly tricky entryway for cars.
We had a fantastic week in this very comfortable house. The kitchen was better equipped than our own! Everyone had a beautiful bedroom with ensuite but noticed that when anyone was upstairs in the kitchen or lounge, it could be noisy. The children enjoyed the secluded garden and the adults enjoyed sitting out on the terrace, watching them. A lovely house.
A family favourite for us. We have been holidaying at this cottage every year for 12 years. It's perfectly located being a five minute walk down a fairly steep hill to the centre of Ambleside. Lots of nearby walks, including Sweden Bridge which more or less starts from the front door and access to the Lake District and all it's amenities. Highly recommended.
Great location which we took advantage of with walking, cycling and running in the local area. House catered for 3 generations with lots of communal space as well as space for some down time. Have always loved the area so within a short distance was able to combine our adventure days with a picnic and the best but was being blessed with superb weather
What a huge improvement since we last stayed in 2013 the new owners are doing a great job with the property. It has everything you need and is clean and well presented. It has lovely views Wansfell just peeps out from behind the trees at this time of year and is in a lovely location for walks from the door. Ambleside very close but yes, the hill is a pull coming back. We had a very unusual week of wall to wall sunshine never happened before in 30 years of Lake District holidays! The south facing balcony was very much enjoyed although a sun umbrella would be a nice addition. A fantastic holiday and a lovely house.
A wonderful property with everything we needed for a 4 night stay The beds were comfy, the view was amazing, the hill was steep! Didn't put us off walking down into Ambleside though, which is a beautiful place Everything about the property was well thought out, the lounge area was so cosy and the additional room was great for the kids to play on XBox!
Sharon
Beautiful cottage and location. Extremely well equipped with lots of books and games for guests to utilise. We were very lucky with the sunny warm weather and had a lovely stroll into the town which took about 15mins at a nice pace. Quite steep coming back up though, so for anyone with mobility issues you would be better driving to the town and back.
Lyndsay
Fantastic property, it is spacious and well maintained. The location is ideal for exploring the local area. Would highly recommend.
Rachel
Brilliant house with every facility you could imagine in the kitchen. Plenty of space to live and so youre not on banging into each other. Ideal place for travelling around the Lakes as long as you are fit enough to walk up the hill after a long day.
Steven
We had a fantastic four night stay at Hillhead. The property is in a good location albeit a steep walk up from town centre with lovely views. Accommodation was lovely with spacious living room and dining kitchen. Loads of booksDVDs etc for a rainy day in. No complaints at all and would highly recommend.
Pamela
Lovely property with great facilities. Plenty of room for 8 adults giving you your own space if needed. Central heating kept the property very warm. The location for Ambleside town centre is excellent albeit quite a steep walk back. I would definitely recommend and use this property again.
