Underheron Reviews

One issue. I took away a hair dryer by mistake but have been unable to contact you to arrange its return. There seems to be no means of contacting you by telephone, email, or through my account. How can I do it ? Martin Coles.
We loved it. Came away as a family with our mother who is under going chemo and we wanted to spend some quality time together as a family which we did. Helped by the beautiful setting and the magnificent lake district. It gave us an opportunity to all be together and a chance to look after her whilst maintaining our privacy in this well set out accommodation. Lovely accommodation and facilities excellent. Would have liked some instructions for cooker and microwave and bin emptying notification being more prominent. However we loved it and would come again. Many thanks
Under Heron is a lovely house. We have been visiting the Lake District for many years and stayed in countless properties and this is up there with the best. Nicely situated in a quiet secluded garden but only 10mins walk from the centre of Grasmere. Spacious rooms and lots of light and views from the many windows. Appeared freshly decorated, good quality furnishingsfixturesfittings, and just a lovely place to spend time with the family. Only issue we had was with Sykes, as on day of arrival there was several bags of rubbish left at the front door which wasn't a great impression, and no wheely bin in sight. Reported to Sykes who were useless and suggested we contact the owners whose details of course we don't have!. Not a sleight on the property or owners but they may wish to have a word with their managing agents.
We had a great time at the property and had everything we needed. The property was well maintained and very comfortable. We marked cleanliness down as we found a couple of bits of glass on the kitchen floor, which wasn't ideal. But we'd definitely stay again.

Lovely property in a great location. Easy to walk into Grasmere, great for dog walking and wildlife spotting. A couple of maintenance issues, one of which is being addressed leaky roof. The washer dryer needs replacing, our clothes were trapped in on the final day. A good deep clean and replacing sealant around the showers would really enhance the property. Would stay again.
Great position only 10 minute walk into Grasmere. Lovely gardens with lots of wildlife. Well equipped property. Maintenance of property let it down hence only 3 stars. Mould developing in master bedroom on curtains & wall. Kitchen area had aroma of stale sick when heating on. Light on upstairs bathroom mirror not working. Significant Roofwater leak in upstairs bedroom not fixed note left dated 12th December stating awaiting owner response unable to use room. Felt very overpriced at 3400 for the week due to issues & wont rebook.

We found the property warm, clean and well presented on arrival. It was well equiped and we found the downstairs area comfortable.Kitchen oven and dishwasher very clean. However,on stripping the beds on departure as requested,we found a torn duvet and stained pillows in the upstairs bedrooms. In our opinion, both upstairs bedrooms were very basic and difficult to negotiate without banging your head.A warning to any older guests,do not opt to sleep upstairs.Overall, again,in our opinion,Underheron is not worth the price tag.
Beautiful holiday home used by 3 generations. Very well equipped, spotlessly clean in a quiet position. Only issue was that the beds were not comfortable enough for us. There were red squirrels, badger and numerous birds. Very steep rear garden but plenty of lawned area to the front of property. Easy short walk into Grasmere village or to The Swan. No real need to use the car once youve arrived, plenty of walks from the door. Would recommend.
The accommodation is flexible and therefore ideal for a family gathering of three generations. There is plenty of room for eating and relaxing. The garden is delightful and secluded and we were thrilled to see a red squirrel running along the perimeter wall! We would have liked a starter pack of logskindling for the fire. It is not very convenient to have to bring these bulky items in the car, on top of all the luggage, self catering foodstuffs and the dog! A general information folder about local facilities would also have been useful. The Swan pub was excellent for our evening meals, with plenty of choice and only a few minutes' walk away.

I have been staying in the lakes for the last twenty years and this is the best dog friendly property I have ever stayed in by far. It is just superb. Really well equipped and very stylishly decorated. Unsure we will ever be able to stay anywhere else now! Two very small issues, I never managed to find a WiFi code, though there must surely be one and secondly, for such a big spacious property, a bath is a bit of a miss. Not being able to soak after a long day on the fells is the only, very minor, downside.

What a gem! We had a brilliant bank holiday weekend at Underheron Cottage. It was the perfect escape so peaceful and relaxing. The cottage itself was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a family. The garden area was a huge hit with the kids. Highly recommended.
Sophie
We had an amazing two night stay at Underheron. The property was spacious and exactly as shown in the pictures, and perfect for a group of 8 to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday. Plus, its really well equipped for everything you might need for a dinner party which was much appreciated! The location offers privacy, yet is a short walk into Grasmere and has plenty of surrounding walks without having to use your car! Id highly recommend this property and would definitely stay again!
Michelle
Lovely cottage all round.
A beautiful property that had everything we needed for a wonderful family weekend away. Great location for walking and the stream in the garden was a big hit with the grandchildren.
A beautiful property in a stunning location, perfect for our family birthday weekend. 5 min walk to the pub serving great food and a lovely 20 min walk into Grasmere which is such a quaint place. The property has plenty of space and everything you need. My granddaughter loved feeding the birds and watching the sheep from the garden. It is very steep so need to take care out side Would definitely stay again

Underheron is an amazing holiday cottage, perfectly suited for families and brilliantly located just a short, pleasant walk from Grasmere. Tucked away in a truly idyllic spot amongst the trees, it boasts fantastic walks right on its doorstep. The facilities are excellent, and the beautiful picture window offers stunning views. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and couldn't recommend Underheron highly enough!
Very easily accessible house, very comfortable, loved the window seats, showers nice and warm, beds very comfortable too. Abundance of room, so yes a lovely holiday home all round.
We had a throughly enjoyable stay at Underheron. The cottage was very comfortable and has plenty of space for our party of eight. It is in excellent condition and extremely clean and tidy, the bathrooms are very nice and the heating worked very well. We would have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody who is looking to stay in the area.
Katherine
This is a great cottage for people to find their own space and also come together to eat and hang out. It is an easy walk into grasmere and the swan pub or travellers rest and also surrounding walks without getting in the car.
A wonderful property perfectly situated and immaculately presented. A welcoming host. The perfect place for a family getaway!

We stayed here a long time ago and loved the house and location then, and it was even better this time as its been done up. The decor and furnishings are beautiful and it was very much home from home. The only minor issues were the fact no oven gloves were providednever experienced that before in a rental home and surely its a safety issue not to provide them? Also we couldnt get the light to switch off in the upstairs bathroom.
Joanne
Thank you for a lovely stay, this was our first family trip to the Lake District. Everything was perfect other than the dishwasher breaking didnt really want to spend my holiday washing up but these things happen! Someone did contact and come to look very quickly. We would definitely recommend and we will be back!
Hello Lovely stay again thank you. The owners do really need to buy some new frying pans the ones there have lost their coatings and have got a lot worse since we last stayed. They only cost like 20 or 30 The front door lock remains an issue .. I have sharpened all the knives as they were dangerously blunt. Otherwise we had a lovely stay. This is is hopefully constructive and not negative. With Best Wishes Chris

Second stay at Underheron. Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Tastefully furnished in a modern style with traditional touches. Well stocked kitchen. One or two things showing a little wear which is probably expected and sadly probably down to people not taking care. Drawer fronts in freezer broken and difficult to get drawers in and out. Already booked for next year. Thank you for the treat at Rattle Ghyll and the Prosecco nice touches.
We had a wonderful 4 days at under heron it had everything you need for the family . . beds were lovely and comfortable just short walk to pub and village hopefully we ll be back soon
Rebekah
We had a really lovely weekend at underheron. Facilities were great, we would stay again.
We had a very enjoyable stay at Underheron. The property was very comfortable and had everything we were looking for. We enjoyed watching and feeding the huge variety of birds and were lucky enough to see a deer and red squirrel in the garden. The weather was superb and we all agreed that a week was just not long enough. A fantastic holiday enjoyed by all. Thank you.
Judith
Our fifth visit to Underheron a comfortable house in an excellent location. Last time we visited we did notice it was in need of some refurbishment so the new furniture, lamps etc were really appreciated! We do cook and eat in some of the time and there were plenty of pans, dishes etc. Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms spacious. The wildlife around the house is a delightmany types of birds, greys and red squirrel seen. Sadly no badgers this time but we had several visits from a small deer. Wonderful to see so close up. Thanks to the host for milk and Prosecco. Im sure well be back again!
This is definitely our favourite place, we have been coming to Underheron on and off for the past 18years! Its a great house and our family have spent many great times and made great memories here. The new refurbishments are fabulous and make the house even better than before only small fault would be the en suite shower, its always been a bit poor and not very powerful, all other showers are great though We have always enjoyed the visit from badgers in the evening and we were not disappointed this time around, a bit of whatever leftovers we had, placed on the two rocks outside front door, always guaranteed a visit, leaving a light on gave us a great view too. All in all, this is a great property and as a family, we can highly recommend it!
We had a comfortable stay
Jennie
A wonderful cottage in a great location. Walkable to the centre of Grasmere for its wonderful cafes and independent shops. Also a great spot to walk from. The cottage was v well equipped, had great entertaining space, super comfortable beds and lounge area, all very well thought out by the owner so thank you! We will be back again!!
Deborah
Beautiful cottage. Great location, only 67 mins walk into grasmere village.
We had a totally amazing experience at this property. A big house which comfortably fit 5 adults and 3 children. Beautiful warm house, loved the underfloor heating in kitchen and bathrooms, as well as the fire. The kitchen was wonderful with lots of cooking equipment, utensils etc. Did a roast one night. The christmas tree and decorations were a hit and the house felt festive. Loads of board games to play if wet. Close to everything, had some great meals out. Definitely want a return visit to this property. If you want big, warm, extremely clean, well positioned, then you will love this property. A big thumbs up from us
Our second stay at Underheron and everything was fine. Location is spot on for my and my family needs. If the property had a bath to sooth our aching legs after our walks, place would be even better but I understand the propety footprint does not really allow for one. Great holiday, lovely house, lovely location.
This is the fourth time weve stayed at Underheron and although I appreciate that a property does occasionally require updating, for me, it has lost its homely feel and charm. On the maintenance side, the downstairs shower is leaking from the controls. The heating wasnt very efficient. We couldnt work out whether the thermostat on the wall in the hall controlled the boiler or underfloor heating. There are also two other thermostats, but again, not sure of their purpose. The radiator in the downstairs twin bedroom couldnt be regulated and so my elderly father was quite cold in this room. The so called welcome pack and instruction manual for the appliances was hidden away in a random drawer when it should be out on display. Luckily we are fairly familiar with Grasmere and the property but for someone new visiting, there was little information to explain anything about the property or area. To say the property has had a recent refurbishment, it was disappointing to see evidence of water leakage in both upstairs bedrooms with paint and plaster flaking off. I would assume that a property of this calibre and price increase requires a certain level of interior decoration. I would be disappointed if we had paid the higher cost of 4000 per week at a property with these issues.
Stuart
This was the 4th time we have stayed at this beautiful house and once again we had a fantastic time. There was a host of wildlife to watch throughout our stay including some hungry badgers. We experienced some heavy rain which subsequently led to some small leaks but the Lakelovers response was swift and helpful. We would definitely return o.
Abigail
The listing says ground floor bathroom with separate shower, basin and toilet. However, there is no bath so this is inaccurate. The lakes is a walking destination where you look forward to a soak after a walk so we were very surprised that a property of this size didn't have a bath. Also, the TV reception was very poor and it needs either retuning or the aerial looking at. The downstairs bathroom has a brokenmissing light fitting and there are knobs missing from the wardrobe doors in the master kingsize bedroom downstairs. There is a slow leak on the kitchen tap so we put a bowl to catch the drip in the sink cupboard. Bearing this in mind I'm not sure it warrants the price paid. . .
Great location!
Krysta
